What part of the Brazos are you interested in? I've been fishing below Whitney dam for over a month now catching largemouth, bluegill, sandbass, stripers and an occasional drum. Using flys and roadrunners.

That isn't me, it's LL. He borrows one of my yaks when we hit the river. I usually fish out of a T140. The tsunami is faster, and hauls more stuff. The T140 is more stable when you're turning around and digging through your gear.

When does Rochelle's open up for the year? I figure it's around spring break, but not sure.

i'm not exactly sure but its the stretch that rochelles canoe rental runs. I think i saw a couple people catching whites but that was along time ago

The LMB I posted was from the pool just upstream from Hwy16. The bluegills were caught somewhere between Hwy16 and Hwy4 (Rochelles).

fishingallday - I am taking vacation at Lake Whitney next month and plan to bring my yak. I live in Lewisville (Dallas) and I've never fished below the dam. Would appreciate info on where to put in and take out. I guess my best bet is to call Rochelle's for a pick up to haul me back to my vehicle - I may even rent a yak from them for a day or two just to avoid the hassle of taking mine down on a trailer.

Many thanks,

Ken

Below Whitney can be put in below the dam. You can either paddle back upstream and take out below the dam, or go to Dick's Place on 1304.

Be ready for quite a haul. They do not let you back your truck or trailer down to the river. It's probably a 100yd haul with 50-75ft elevation to get up to the parking area.

Check out texaskayakfisherman.com and see what Strider has to say about the Brazos... That guy tears up huge cats and some nice alligator gar.. He knows what's out there.

Sorry fishforken it took me so long to reply. I have been using Riverside Park, a Corps of Engineers park. It has a makeshift boat ramp that you can pull use to unload the yak and then park about 50 yards away. I usually only paddle about a half a mile or so downriver and then paddle back up to the dam when I am leaving. Rochelles is above Lake Granbury, near Possom Kingdom I believe so. As mentioned though, Dicks is a possibility. I've never used them but know some guys that have. Just watch out for airboats.
