Headed there for a week in June with some friends. Taking a flats/bay boat. I am looking for websites/blogs/ were I can get info about the different flats and local hot spots.
Any info would be appreciated.
Thanks, Txstr

I lived and worked on charter boats out of Islamorada (a few keys to the east of Marathon) for two years and this is a great source of information on fishing all up and down the keys. www.weeklyfisherman.com

thanks for the info.
Been to Islamorado for a day trip a few times and have caught lots of fish but never a tarpon, snook, or permit. Always been there with bad conditions, wrong time of year, etc. Now I have a week and am there at the right time of year.

Great time of year to go for tarpon especially around the docks and the bridges under US 1. If you decide to go offshore for a day go down to Islamorada. I'd suggest going out with my old captain Greg Pope on the Tag 'Em or with Steve Leopold on the Yabbadabbadoo . Both are world class captains and that time of year the offshore fishing (millions of dorado) and reef (yellowtail snapper, mutton snapper, mangrove snapper, red grouper, scamp grouper) is wide open. Should be a great time for bridge fishing for Tarpon at Bahia Honda state park. Good boat ramp, 500 yards to the fish. There are flats everywhere down there, the more remote, the less pressured.

PS if you use any wieght on a tarpon rig, lightly attach it with rigging wire. You do not want it solidly attached to a jumping, head shaking, tarpon. It should break free at the first head shake.
