Remember guys, sandbass make new sandbass each year. Once you take a hybrid thats it until someone stocks them, then wait 2-4 yrs. Eat the sandbass, release the hybrids

Try this one.

Blackened Hybrid:

Warning:It's best to do this outside. It will stink up your house. I use my propane fryer burner.

Heat a large iron skillet on high till it starts smoking.
Cut trimmed hybrid fillets into three pieces.
Brush the meat side of the fillets with real butter.
Spray the skillet liberally with PAM or other nonstick.
Place the fillets in the skillet skin side down. Thicker pieces in the middle and tail pieces around the perimeter.
Dust with Tony Cachere's cajun seasoning. I like to use a little salt also, but that's just me.
Cook till the edges start to turn white then flip.
Lightly brush with butter.
Continue cooking until the thicker pieces are flaky.
No need to season the skin side.

This usually happens every time I bring a few fish home. They never see the freezer.

BTW, I like my LMB steamed.LOL

I like to grill the trimmed up filets on a piece of aluminum foil over hot coals. Brush on a little lemon & butter, salt/pepper to taste and chow down on some good stuff. The bigger ones make a much nicer filet than the barely legal ones do. For grilling, the larger ones are lots easier to fool with.

What jon says! Excellent eating!!

I've had them eat me up!

I'm like those who said they are better to catch than eat. It takes a chainsaw to clean one. Their heck on a electric knife.

Too funny---they stock them every year--TPWD stocks them so people CAN take the lawful limit. Wait don't eat sandbass because they DO reproduce so if you eat them there wont be anymore sandbass smile --or just use common sense and take what you need(not want) within the lawful limits. I said need because I tend to clean more than what I need and end up with WAY too much fish in the freezer.

I always check the freezer before I leave the house so I know if it is going to be a catch and release trip or a meat trip...

My family would rather eat hybrids better than white bass...but crappie takes the top spot!!!

Clean and eat what you want within the law. Use your best judgement as to how much you want or need. It is none of my business what any of you take home if it is legal. People make up all kinds of things to try and keep you from fishing for their favorite fish. Over in the catfish section they say you should release all the giant flatheads. hahahahah well they can but I know how great of table fare it is. Bass fisherman frown when you take home a bass. Let me tell you something if I am filling like bass that night and it is legal rather it is 2 lbs or 10 lbs I will do what I wish with it if in the legal limit. Too many people want to control or presuade you to do what they want you to do. Do what you want with your catch within the law.

As far as table fare Hybrids are just as good as striper and sandbass. I prefer crappie or catfish but I wont pass up hybrid either if I am in the mood for fish. Hybrids blackened on the grill are excellent. Nice meat for grilling. And of course you can fry just about any fish.

I love me some hybrid...they are really good grilled.

My absolute favorite fish is fried bass from 12-14" fish (we used to eat a lot in LA where there was no 14" minimum).

Spotted bass, if you can find a place that has them, are very good, and you can keep the small ones (and the smaller ones are usually fatter than equal length largemouth).

The more you turn back the better the fishing. I've seen rivers-lakes get fished out. Keep what you need. Catch & Release creates a trophy fishery. Yes Ray Hubbard has been stocked with Hybrids almost every year:

I understand but more fish doesn't necessarly mean more trophy fish---Texoma has millions of 8-18inch fish--but not nearly as many trophy fish as they used too--at least from what I have read about fishing there years ago. Also your link states that the average life span of a hybrid is 5-6 years--I have read in other publications around 7years. Either way once a hybrid gets big(7lbs or so) it is probably on its way to the big lake in the sky. I saw on an episode of Dirty Jobs that they use hybrids instead of stripers for farm raised stripers because of the quick growth rate. Just my thoughts.

I guess the best way would be if they had a selective breeding program like they do for LMB where they breed the larger white bass to the larger stripers like they do with the sharelunker program. Unfortunately hybrid fishing doesnt have the corporate money backing it like LMB fishing does. With that being said I want to fish Marine Creek now to see how a sharelunker offspring fries up smile

That is because you didnt know me 3 yrs ago eeks

If you want , take your legal limit ... they are great grilled and fried. The big problem is people that take under sized hybrids and think they are white bass. And yes, SuperDuck and me tend to agree to disagree on this isuue laugh laugh
