I ran across this article. I know a lot of guys are having more and more Outboard Motor problems. This is very annoying, but it also is DAMAGING your engine. Pleae read, and understand how to best take care of your EXPENSIVE boat motor. http://www.theoutboardwizard.com/boat_ethanol_danger_precaution.html

Me and son went out the other day, just running the little Honda
2HP, and it was stalling. I had to remove the fuel, and start
over. Its a very serious problem. You dont want you MOTOR to
quit after all the planning and driving to the lake.

Boaters, often store gas in tanks longer than recommended for E10 (90 days). Need to go fishing more often...

I run my boat on the lake a minimum of every two week just to prevent this. That's my story and I'm sticking to it.
Stress less, relax more. Go fishing.

I had the carbs rebuilt in my 150 Mercury several months ago. My mechanic said that the floats were being destroyed by the ethanol and that it was causing lots of other problems. Not sure if it was a sales pitch, but I had no problems until I purchased fuel with it in it.

My boat is in the shop right now to get the carbs rebuilt. I fish 2 or 3 times a week but still have problems. It seems that every 6 or 8 months I have to clean my carbs. I have replaced my tank and I instructed my mechanic to install a 10 micron filter. Does anyone know which companies(Exxon, Phillips, Texaco etc) do not add ethanol? If it is not posted on the pump does that mean there is no ethanol? I have asked a few people at the stations if there is ethanol in their gas and they don't know. PFD

From what I have noticed Ethonal is more prone to be within suburban areas other than rural areas. For example I see a lot more stations (with at least the disclaimer on the pumps) in Dallas, Rockwall and even Rains counties. Here in Wood county I see fewer. How ever I do see more along the interstate (I-30 and I-20) no matter how populated the county is.
So filling up the tanks before you get back could help in the future. This is just an observation on my part.

patfat, do you add an engine cleaner like seafoam to your gas? It will help keep the carbs clean. If you mix oil with gas you also will have more problems no matter what gas you use. I used to have my old mercury tower of power carbs apart once a year.

I just add stabil or Pri-G now. If I had to store the motor for a month or more I would try and drain the gas tank. After the off time I would make sure the tank had no water and then just fill with fresh. That way you guarantee you didn't have old gas or a water problem. I use a fluid extractor to replace the oil in my diesel VW. It can also remove almost every drop of fuel in the boat. I have a tube that is less than 1/4 inch in diameter. I also have a fuel tank that is directly below the filler. I can see and empty the tank easily.
