I have a Motorguide with the cable steer that makes noise in the head whenever I turn it. The noise is hard to describe it's like a dry draging sound. Is it possible to remove the cover and inspect it, possibly grease it? Could I put something like graphite in the cable housing? Would appreciate any help.

yes you can remove the cover and lube it,just lube the cables where they go into the turnstyle.be careful not move the position of the cam to the gear when you remove the cover just take your time and you will be ok.

As Stan said, it is really pretty easy. Just take your time as he said. I've taken mine off to lube and replace lights in the directional arrow.

Also might be the bearing under the pinion gear that attaches to the shaft.
