Even though I fish with spinnerbaits, crankbaits, worms and other sub surface lures, there is nothing like topwater fishing to me....

This past weekend, while fishing off a bank, I threw my storm shad over the top of hydrilla or moss..Even though the lure was full of that stuff, several 3-4lb bass would hit it....I caught the fish with a 1-lb of moss wrapped in and around it...I was fishing the evening hours, thinking they would be in deeper water, instead they were in 2foot or less, under the most thickest hydrilla/moss.....I caught 6 fish from 12" to 19"...Catch and release so I can do this fun stuff again....

If ever fishing where there is hydrilla or moss on top, pitch a weightless worm or storm shad on top of it. Crank very fast. Once you get a strike, stop for a second and start moving it fast again...You will see what I mean...It can be fun!!!!

Top water hits are truly heart stopping. The best of the best.

The last few times I fished for sandies we used top waters, MAN!!!! what a feeling that is. We would wait till they were close enough to cast a surfacing fish and through right at the splash, toooooooo much fun. we caught about 98 the last time.

I love the top water bite. A few weeks ago my broter and I got a chance to get out to Decker Lake, and the Bass were schooling and hiting top water. We had a ball, I don't even know how many we wound up catching. Haven't been able to get out since then, man I need to go soon.

I was in Nueces Bay last weekend fishing a weedline. I saw a red traveling the shoreline (weed movement) and cast my pop-a-dog toward him, the wind caught it and it landed several feet behind. So I began twitching it to make it rattle and sure enough, he turns around and shoots out of the weeds and engulfs it!

I wish I had a video, it was by far one of my best experiences on the water.

Top water Bass rock!!!

About a month ago I was putting the wood to trout and reds off of Dewberry Island at Port O'Connor with topwater plastic jerkbaits in the wee morning hours around schooling mullet. Splash, wait, feel the pull, set the hook, hear the splash and barely see it in the misty morning air, then hear the drag start screaming. Can't beat that.

I have a post in the bank fishing section w/pics, "wed.afternoon pond fishing" I went to visit a friends pond that I haven't been to in a while,it was cover with thick grass,it was the middle on the afternoon and figured it was gonna be slim pickins till I cast a lil foam frog and twitched it a few times,Man it was like my brother likes to say somebody flushed the toilet,there were a few fish that I couldn't lift up out of the water cause they had a few pounds of salad on them,but I would gladly donate a few lures for that kind of action!!!!

Anothe great bait to use while topwater fishing is the Berkly Blade Dancer. I know many are sceptical of this fairly new bait, but i think you'll change your mind if you try it just once. The blade dancer wiggles and wobbles weedlessly through any surface cover, and to a bass its unique look is irresistable.
