Hello all. I have several cork handle rods that have started to get pockets in them (specifically my Wally Marshall rods). I was wonderring if there is something that I can purchase that will allow me to fill the pockets in the cork or is this something that I will have to live with? If there is such a thing, where can I purhcase it from? Someone told me about a wood filler but I haven't been able to locate such a thing. Any info is much appreciated because I certainly like to keep my rods looking as new as possible.

Couple of things you can do to easily fill the pockets.
Like someone mentioned, you can get wood filler (SANDABLE type) which can be found at most Home Depot, Lowes, Hardware Stores. Try to find the color that closely match your cork handle. Only sand once completly cured. The cleaner you apply, the less you will have to sand. You can have a match finish.
One other way is mix the 2 equal parts of 5min. FlexCoat epoxy glue. fill the pockets and wait 1/2 hr for complete harden before sanding. Once again, the cleaner you apply, the less you will have to sand. The finish will be clear or milky white, but tough to withstand hard usage in compare to the wood filler.
Hope this help

Never heard of anything to fill the pockets. Might want to brush some Thompsons wood sealer on them. I use it on my cork handles. Repels the water and keeps them from coming apart.
Keep on fishing.

Fill in the voids then go and get handle bar wrap like on bicycles and wrap the handle .Better than rod wraps

Most use a sanded cork dust and glue mixture or the wood filler...I have used the later but it will wear you out with all the sanding, looks good when you are done though...The best way to go is treat the handle when it's new...They still look new after much use and dirt washes right off...I use U-40 Cork Seal and Dave's treatment sounds good too...Try and avoid major cleaning of the handles with soap and water and a brush as this is what extracts the original filler...If it won't come off with water and your hand forget about it...
Now the big finish...Don't be anal like me and worry about it...It's visual not performance related...

Great topic!! I've got several cork handles in need of repair, never thought about doing it. Good information.
