With all the different styles and tastes from vineyards all over the world, what do you buy when you want to show off the quality of wines from here in the Lone Star State ?

I have bought and enjoyed a port wine from Messina Hof

http://shoppingcart.messinahof.com/xcart/product.php?productid=16193&cat=259&page=1

and several wines from

http://www.beckervineyards.com/

I am not an expert, but for Texas wines these have been enjoyable.

If people focused on important issues, there would be a shortage of fishing poles.

The hill country has a bunch of great wineries. We went on the wine lovers trail last year and visited them all. We're still working our way through the bottles we bought. The latest was a Cabernet Blanc from Grape Creek which was just as good as we remembered it. Check out the map to see where many of them are located.

Also, Iconoclast Cabernet Sauvignon from Becker is great with a steak.

Thanks for the feedback everyone. I have a great portfolio of Texas Wines that I sell including Llano, Fall Creek, Becker and Sister Creek, as well as Messina Hof, home of the colorful Mr. Paul Bonarigo and his lovely wife Merrill.

In the last decade the quality coming out of our local wineries has been outstanding. We can all proudly feature our Texas wines, to friends and family with the highest degree of confidence and assurance.

A vast improvement from twenty years ago !!!

Grapenut, you obviously are in the business and see a lot more of the Texas producers than most of us. Do you have any "sleepers" out there that we could check out. Also, do you have a few tried and true favorites that you like?

Has Ben,
Some favorites of mine from Texas :

Llano Signature Red
Llano Sauvignon Blanc
Llano Viviano ( red bordeaux style )

Fall Creek Merlot
Fall Creek Granite Reserve Red
Fall Creek Riesling/Muscat Blend

Becker Iconoclast Cabernet Sauvignon
Becker Viognier
Becker Malbec

Messina Hof Papa Paolo Port
Messina Angel Riesling
Messina Hof "Texas Hold Em" Red and White ( new )

Sleepers :

If your favorite jug shop is committed to a Texas Wine section, then these all should be available.

I agree. They have a Rodeo Red that is a sweet red wine that is excellent.
