I know that every situation is different. My personal Favorites are Stren clear/blue 6 lb on my ultralights, Remington 10lb on my spinning reels, Trilene XT 12lb on the bait casters, and Berkley Big Game 20lb for catfish and my big coastal rig. I have heard a lot about the clear flourocarbon. I got some several years ago, it was on clearance at Waly World and it was so brittle that you could break it in half by just pulling at both ends. What are yall's thoughts on flourocarbon...And why isn't there an epiration date on fishing line, just a thought?!

Fishing line typically moves fast enough in stores not to worry about the expiration date.
As far as what is best, it all depends on the situation. I have become a VERY big fan of power pro from 20 lb. on my crappie rigs (to save jigs from the brush) to 80 lb. on my big Penn on the 12' Tica for long-distance kitties). I do, however, still run mono on a few of my reels as I just can't typically stand to use braid w/ spinnerbaits and any kind of crankbait. For worm fishing though, I love my power pro. I have gone to Power Pro exclusively on my catfish rigs for the sensitivity (especially for punchbait) and will use nothing else for throwing corks at any distance (b/c it floats).
As far as fluorocarbon goes...it has come a LONG way. I remember some nasty berkley photochromic line I had one time in 14 lb. test...I broke off 3 fish in a row that weren't very big...and it wasn't the knot breaking. I've had good luck with Berkley Vanish, but I haven't had any whopper fish on it yet either. It makes a big difference in clear water where the fish are pressured heavily.
No fish is too good for the grease.

i rarely use fluro but i have noticed a sensitivity benifit to using it. However, lately ive been going to copolymer(silver thread to be exact), its worked great for two seasons switch it out maybe twice, and it casts well even with heaver line. but i agree, with frogs, heavy veg. catfish and river fishing ive almost exclusively gone to power pro.

One thing to note...if you're usin' super heavy PowerPro (like 80 lb.) run some 50 lb. or so as your leaders from the swivels...if you get your hook hung on something that gives and won't break off (like a cable) you'll have a helluva time breaking that PP.

I use Power Pro 65# for my main line, and 40-50# for my leaders. There are still many times that I can not break the line when I snag. Usally have to cut the line.

even when i use 30# pp i have trouble breaking the line... guess my knot is just that good . With worms through thick veg. ill use 30-40# with a 15-20# fluro leader tied with a double uni to uni. Otherwise catfishing or c-rigs ill do the whole barrel swivel thing.

I like p-line, their mono is great, and fluro for leaders when you need it... I have been able to go with lighter line from 20 to 15 and even some 12 because of performance of the line...which has improved casting distance, I think a lot of people use bigger line than they need most of the time...

On my shallow cranking reel, I use clear 12 lb big game. For my deeper cranking setup, I still use big game but move up to 15 lb test. I like big game because it is very inexpensive, yet strong and battle tested Plus, it cuts the water and gets the cranks down fairly well. I trust it. I would like to dabble with flouracarbon on my cranking reels because it cuts water very fast but I have had too many problems with it breaking on my light spinning tackle.
For my spinning, buzzbait, traps, and topwater setups; I like to use braided line. I go with PowerPro in 40 or 30 lb test. I like useing braid for fishing these lures because it is very light and helps keep the baits up. Also, it is great for tossing these baits around stickups and heavy cover, you dont have to worry about abrassion, and when a fish heads for cover you can crank him out. Also, when fishing lures like chatter, spinners, or traps; the sensitivity of the braid helps you feel if the lure is swimming right.
For ordinary flipping or softplastic fishing, I like to use 17 to 20 lb big game mono. Again, I enjoy the cost and trust the line. I like mono for fishing plastics because it cuts water better than braid and gets the baits down without needing much weight added.
On my heavy flipping, punching, and weedless frog setup; I like to go with a heavy braid. Right now. I am spooled up with 50lb test power pro. The fact that it doesnt sink well is negated by the heavier weight needed for punching through various vegatation, or by the overriding need for a line that just wont break. Plus, it is perfect for a topwater weedless frog fished over heavy vegation that the fish burry themselves in after hookup.
On my spinning finesse outfit I have tried to use the Berkly Vanish flouracarbon in 6 to 8 lb test. However, I am having problems with the line breaking at the knot when casted, causing me to loose lures. I have recently replaced it with 10 lb big game and am going to explore my options. I also am a big advocate of 10-20 lb braid on spinning gear.

I have had good luck with P-Line CX Premium mono 20# and Vicious Fluoro 15#. All heavier test mono/fluoro lines have some memory, I manage that with KVD Line & Lure treatment.

other than pline fluro, my main mono line is usually is the pline cx. i have a reel with 30# power pro, one with 20# stren microfuse(the white line makes it clutch for night fishing because you can see the line without much light), one with 17# silver thread, 14# silver thread, 15# pline fluro, and 12# pline cx, and one with 10# bps mono.... Each reel is set up for a specific purpose so i have the line fitting accordingly. in my opinion line is only as good as the angler allows it to be, use the appropriate line with the appropriate baits and set ups, and you will find any line coult potentially fit your needs.

I always try the new stuff, but my 2 favorites are still Stren Magnathin and Gamma High Performance Copolymer.
