Are they really going to start building a reef along the entire Texas coast 7 or 8 miles out?

Check out this site....it's the best I can find on the subject. http://www.texasgreatbarrierreef.com/
I told my "X" she was fat...she said she was "big boned", told her I had never seen a fat skeleton...hence..my "X". Now, I fish, therefore I eat.

Wow! What an incredible project! What will the reefs be constructed of? I didn't see a reference in the site.

I am not the expert, but I am a member of the Recreational Fishing Alliance ( www.rfatexas.org). The RFA is working hard to secure the permit so to develop this project. The reef will be constructed of concrete pyramids with a 12ft by 12ft base, 10 ft tall. They will have openings for bait fish and juvinile fish to hide. The concrete will be made to the correct Ph so to attract the correct micro-organisms within about 3 months which will then attract the bait fish then game fish. The reef will be placed about 1/2 mile in from the federal waters. As I said, I am not the expert. I have only attended one RFA meeting and was so impressed I joined. Please contact the web site, ask questions and see if this is something you feel you should support. I think you will be suprised to learn what the State and Federal Govt. is doing and not doing.

I hope this goes into action soon. It would be nice to have the extra structure for fishing. I'v kept a close eye on this and have not seen any evidence that they have started the placements of the structure yet. Not sure if the permits have been awarded yet. Any one have any mroe info let us ALL know.

I sent a message to Jim Smarr and asked him to update the TGBR project here.
He's extemely busy with all of this Snapper stuff, but I'm sure he'll provide great info.
I do know that they've purchased a beautiful vessel to aid in their plan to provide accurate population data to make regulatory decisions. They are working with PHD scientists to ensure their process/acquired data will sustain the peer-review process.
They are also actively seeking permits as mentioned above.

Tom Hilton, who is one of the drivers of this issue has already purchased a really neat boat to assist in the reefing project. There have been several pics of it posted at 2cool .... I'll see if I can find them and post them here. Here's the link to the boat pics. You may need to register there if you can't open it. Reefing Project Boat
