Just returned from the "head waters" of Willis Creek (entered off CR 348). It's nothing more than a trickle and in need of some rain BAD. I walked 2.4 miles (GPS as the crow flies) along the creek fishing almost every spot that offered a place to cast towards the lake. White Jigs, Chartruse Jigs, Road Runners, Mepps spinners and was only able to hook up with 6 lmb, (all dinks) and one crappie about 11 inches. Needless to say, slow day and not worth anyone making the treck anytime soon. I guess my trip with the neighborhood kids will need to wait a couple more weeks!

Bofly, thinkin your request was for the type of fishfinders I have that display water temp? Just guessing. Humminbird 383c on the console and a Garmin 160c on the TM. Both jived on the water temps.

Keep on fishing.

Left the house and forgot the camera. I usually have it in the boat with me, but it was still in my duck hunting gear. My buddy lost a big one today. One of the biggest one's I ever seen on that lake. Teach him to check his knots every once and a while!

What kind of unit does a person nominally use to take a temp reading of the water?

Bo, for me I get the water temp from Humminbird unit. If you don't have it on your electronics get one of the portable units that you drop over the side for around $20 from Walmart. It will give you a good reading of the surface temp.

DBMan,
Glad you're still posting reports!
Woj,
Met you yesterday leaving Willis Creek - we stayed 'til 11 pm fishing under a light and got 8 keeper crappie to 13" and a giant warmouth, mostly on medium minnows. Crappie bite in the creeks has slowed - lots of dinks in the holes that were producing keepers a month ago. Like you said - not enough flow up in Willis to get the whites moving. We fished jigs and minnows all afternoon and didn't get a single sandy.
Rain and the next full moon will probably send them up there...

bofly, didn't mean to strike nerve with my question to you. I read your post directly after mine and was confused assuming the question was directed at me. I'll be sure not to respond to posts unless I am absolutely certain they are directed at me and I understand the question completely.
pankofisher, nice to meet you yesterday. Hopefully some rain this week might get Willis Creek more active. The Crappie are starting to make their way into the San Gabriel.
