Lowrance LMS-522C IGPS Sonar/GPS Chartplotter with Built-In GPS+WAAS Antenna or Lowrance LMS-520C Sonar/GPS Chartplotter with external Antenna?

Are there any benifits verses internal/external antennas?

Is there a better unit in the $600.00 range and what makes it better

LMS-520C Sonar/GPS Chartplotter with external Antenna

I like the fact that if the antenna goes bad I can just buy an another antenna versus a whole to unit like you have to with an internal antenna. Also the external antenna seems acquire your location faster.

Also if you are mounting it inside a console the internal seems to have alot of problems

Based on what little you have told us of what the problem is,
my only suggestion would be to get your kid to do it.

I downloaded it along time ago (no probelms).

Can you explain a little more what your problem is.

But your best bet is to call Lowrance Customer Support.

No suggestions on the emulator but I'll say go with the external GPS as well. I just upgraded from an Eagle internal to a Lowrance external and the acquisition time seems like about half what the internal was.

Did any of you attach your antenna to a switched power supply? The Lowrance guy at the Dallas Boat Show said to put a switch on the antenna so it wouldn't drain the battery all day long. Seemed kind of strange to me, but that's what he said.

I'm planning to get the 520c when my tax return comes in. laugh

Is there a fishfinder out there that you can use as a road map navigator also?

I think they all show map detail of roads (on land).

But here's a hint - the fish are in the water.

Good Idea - go external GPS. External allows you to upgread later and not have to buy another GPS. Also if you want to network/link two units to one GPS you can do that also.

Orginally they had some problems with the internal but I think they took care of that.
