Hello,

I've been catching white bass for years when they make the spring run up the rivers and creeks here in Kansas. There not my favorite table fare but lots of fun to catch.

I recently bought a boat and have several diffrent lakes up here with strong white bass populations and maby some wipers mixed in.

When fishing the river, I use a 2" twirl tailed grub / jig in a white, yellow, or green color. I fish the jig on the bottom and with the current.

I wonder if someone would be kind enough to give some general pointers for locating white bass and catching them in a lake.

I have caught them occasionaly around brush piles, crappie fishing with minnows. Surly there is a better way of locating them and catching them.

Thanks in advance for the help. I have noticed that this forum is alot better at advice than most. Yall are a great group of guys... for the most part smile.

Is there anyway to catch them without trolling? Do they associate with brush like crappie?

They will relate to changes in depth more than to brush. Look for old roads and humps in the lake.
What lake are you fishing in Kansas?
A lot of the lakes that have rip rap on the face of the dam will have haul roads that were used to get the rip rap to the dam.

It ain't easy making it look easy.

kansasmedic -- WELCOME to the TFF. I grew up in Coffeville = hard to get much more S.E. than that smile smile

White bass are more of an open water fish -- look for major lake points, rocky or sandy shoreline. Typically fishing depths of 12-18'...just watch the depth finder. In the Spring/Summer transition look for the birds and top water action.

What lakes are you fishing???

Small world -- my sister lives in the area just 3 miles east of Indy. I fished both of those with my grandpa when I was growing up. I got to fish Big Hill when it first opened and the bass fishing was the best I have ever fished...although that was a long time ago.

Both of those lakes have good white bass populations in them. I will check the maps to see what I can remember...do you have a GPS??

you could throw those jigs around lighted docks at night.

or

At Ray Hubbard we would find schools on the graph and drop a
chartreus/white slap off the bottom. 18-22ft.
