I am taking the kids to a pond in Frisco Saturday morning for their "trick-a-trout" event. The city of Frisco will release 2,000 trout tomorrow morning and let the kids fish from 8am to 11am. After 11am adults are welcome to get a line wet.
I am curious what setup to use for farm raised, freshly released trout?
Bait: Corn? Gulp? Cheese?
setup: small (?) hook with a split shot and bobber? in-line spinners?
How far from hook to weight to bobber?
I would like the kids to catch some fish so I can take the boat out in the afternoon.
Thanks.

use a white or orange in-line spinner! Thats was I use everytime they stock the spillway below Canyon Lake and I kill them!

if they can cast try a super duper. Never let me down yet. Smaller sixe works best. Silver on a clear day, gold on an overcast day. Good luck

Great chance for them to catch fish, not just go fishing. Take a can of corn, drain, empty into sealable container. Pour garlic, lots of garlic, shake and seal. refrigerate.... If your using bobbers, go about 2 foot deep, split shot about 8-10 inches from hook. or just remove bobber and cast it out there. We normally throw about six to ten pieces of corn into the water about 10 foot out. fish there, and the kids will do well Good luck, and post up some pics

I like to use the colored mini marshmallows!
I would rather have a bad day fishing, than a good day at the office!

my 3rd year taking my boy to that and only one fish to show for it. the main problem is that on stocking day there are 40000000 kids there and IF you find a little open water the 6 year next to you will snag your line with every cast. i know how to catch trout but i have decided its just not worth the headache. i now usually go the day after or night after and limit out quickly. the gold/silver spinners are good for dad to chunk and the corn/salmon eggs (get the redhot brand) combo works the best for me. i usually soak the corn in vanilla for 24 hours or so but i imagine the garlic works just as good. trout hook, one small split shot on a microlight rod/reel combo and your good to go.
