I got a 1963 Johnson on my Crestliner. It runs well and seems like it was stored more than it was used. When the motor idles at low idle, it gets rought and dies ocasionaly. I have to play with the throttle to keep it running. Any ideas?
I was thinking about having someone put a new carb kit in it.

Carb kits can't hurt. Sounds like a lean/rich mixture problem. What do the plugs look like?

I have not looked at them since I bought the boat last summer. They did not look fouled when I ran a compression test on it.
I have never worked with a boat motor before. Is a carb kit something I can do or should I pay someone? I'm not even sure what entails with a carb kit.

My Crestliner is a '63 modle and is alluminum with blue and white paint. The paint is chiping pretty bad. I was thinking about stripping the pain and buffing the alluminum. I wonder if shiney alluminum would hurt the fishing.
Anyone know what you would use to strip pain and shine up the alluminum?
