Has anyone thought about, or gone ahead and sprayed the interior of their truck or SUV with bedliner? I have a 96 suburban. I have this vision of completely pulling all the carpet and as much plastic as I can out. In its place I would like to spray the bedliner material in. Anyone else thought about this and/or done it. To get husky liners for all the floorboards and the cargo area would be around 200-250 USD. I am thinking why not just go for an all out outdoorsman's truck and not have to worry about carpet and broken plastic anymore.
My goals are this: washablity, durability, increased cargo room by removing the "fluff".
My areas of concern are: I have rear ac with controls and speakers in the roof above the rear seats. My thought was to pull all the carpet, trim, etc from the bottom of the window down. But I don't want wires and ducts showing. I know I will have to do something about the rear ac that resides near the pass side wheel well. I probably will make a sheet metal cover for it to replace the current plastic.
The "tool box" will go away, I will carry real tire changing tools in another area. If you don't know, these tools are a PITA anyway. I also hope to move the spare to the outside. I am trying to find a good swing a way carrier for the rear, but have struck out so far. May just have to build it. I guess I will have to make some panels to line to cover the seat backs that become the floor when they are folded down.

I have seen some of the jeeps before. I just was wondering if anyone might have already done this to a similar SUV. Kinda want an idea of how it might turn out and what I am in for before I start pulling stuff apart. This plastic gets brittle, so I am afraid after I start disassemly there may be no going back. I may post some pics of what I am starting with, if this wind will quit and I can figure out how.

I just looked up herculiner, it comes in colors now. My interior is a gray color and herculiner comes in a gray. The outside of my truck is red and they also make a red. This might be closer to reality than I previously thought.

I tried to get the guys to do on my 07 F350, when they installed the liner in the back and they wouldnt do it, so I took it to the ford dealership and talked to them about it and they just laughed and didnt think I was serious..
I would love to do this to my truck, if I can find someone to do it for me. I hate carpet in my vehicles....

My buddy did it to his Jeep and likes it pretty well. I have never seen it done in a Suburban let us know how it turns out.

It can be done...just realize that the noise inside the vehicle will be substantially higher...might want to think about keeping the carpet on top of the liner...

It won't be a fast process, it took me two weeks to get a chance to do a tune up last week, than only took about 2 hours including the parts run. It is just hard to find uninterupted time these days.
One of my concerns is the transition from some of the interior trim to the liner material. I want it to looked finished, not hap hazard.

I was out there looking at it again. I looks like I will have to keep the side plastic pieces. There are some wiring harnesses in there that I don't see a way to move or hide, yet. And the whole rear air stuff down the passenger side. Also the flip down floor boards and seat backs are carpeted. The flip boards would be easy, just pull the carpet off and line them, but the seat back carpet is stitched to the cover of the seat. I am thinking about some flat planels that I can line then pop rivet to the seat backs. The interior of the rear seat is the same plastic that the flip floor boards are made of. This is important because it is also the cargo area.
I was really hoping to do away with the sides to give me a scoosh more room. In addition to moving the spare tire to the rear bumper. If any of yall run across a link or someone that has done this I would appreciate a link to look it over.
Something else I thought about. I sleep in the back sometimes when I hunt. I'll probably be a lot colder in there with out the carpet, huh?

Consider a roof mount tire carrier (safari rack?). Also you can spray over the plastic and the liner will make it stronger. my 2 cents.

Can't put the spare on the roof. It would be in the way of my boats. Still looking for pics of a similar vehicle done this way.
