Has anyone gone out to G-town and caught any whites or hybrids?? They were schooling up about a month ago and was going to go try and get on a few...any tips or hints would be great!

We were on the whites last weekend accross from Russell and around the corner from Russell. The birds were working a little. We dropped the slabs down and caught about 50 keeping 6 that were 15 inches. No hybrids. Good luck...let us know how you do.

Tough going today. Managed a couple but they are pre spawn and had lock jaw today. I lowered my camera down and could find them stacked up, but they wouldn't bite anything.

IMO...Get a 1/4" mesh cast net and head to the river. Sprinkle some bread out on the surface. Cast your castnet over the bread and should pick up riverminnows. These are the perfect bait for NON-BITING White bass, in my opinion. Should have no problem catching a limit of whites. It is just a little hard to catch the river minnows. NOT STORE BOUGHT ONES...

I live right there by lake Georgetown, and have been out a few times, mainly fishing around Russell or by the damn. I've never been up the river in my boat though. Is it worth chasing whites up the river in a boat, or is it better to walk in from Tejas? How far can you go up in a boat (mine is a 19ft fish-n-ski)? Thanks.
Stephen

I have not been up the river in a boat in years.
If you have a boat there are plenty of whites accross and around from Russell.

Thanks Z. I may be out there on Sunday if I'm not driving out to 347, but that place is bound to be crowded. I take it you can start in the deep water on the bluffs across from the beach and just work your way around and west from there. When you "drop slabs" are you using minnows on a crappie rig and just kind of bouncing it along deep, or are you casting up to the bank and slow rolling back with something like a road runner?

Drop the slab straight down in about 30-35 ft of water.
I may be out there on Sunday after chruch (3pm) if the weather is nice.
I'll be in a 21ft Wellcraft...give me a hollar if you see us.
