I sent my boat to Advantage Marine in Sachse to have some repairs done to the bow, transom, and trolling motor wiring. After having my boat for a period of four weeks (and they didnt even look at it for the first two) I have just as many problems with it now as I did before but just different problems.

First of all when I got the boat back they hadnt wired the Big Foot buttons back up to the trolling motor wiring so instead of getting to go fishing that Saturday morning I got to fix that problem. So the next weekend rolls around and I plug in my Dual Pro charger to check the batteries in hope of finally getting to go fishing and it blows the breaker in the breaker panel (the on in the house). After it blows the breaker three different times I find that my charger has condensation built up in it. Well, its was water proof and working fine when I took my boat to Advantage and I know that they had to take the charger off to do the transom work. So at 9:30pm (I had plans to go fishing the next morning) I figured I had better take the boat to the water to see if it even ran seeing how Advantage had to take the engine off as well. Once I got the boat in the water I was pleased that it started but when I tried to turn on my graph it just flashed and all my instrument gauges lit up. Then when I turn on the nav. lights and the instrument gauges went out and the stern light never came on. So to end my evening I put the trolling motor in the water to see if they had fixed the wiring problem and....NO!!!! Its just as screwed up as it was when I took it to Advantage Marine.

So I called Joe, who is the owner of Advantage, and he denied ever touching the battery charger (even though they added a plate onto the transom directly behind the charger and remounted it about 6 higher than it was) and even told me that the trolling motor should be working fine and if it isnt that I need to take it to All Star to have the trolling motor tested. That sounds logical but the trolling motor was at All Star for the entire month that Advantage had the boat and its fine.

Now then, I feel better just being able to vent. I didnt post this to keep any one from going to Advantage but rather to let off some steam. I havent been able to use the boat for 6 weeks now and I am getting a little cranky. Are there any electrical experts in the house, Ill bring the problem and the beer, lol.

It's been my experience that no boat repair shop knows anything about electricity or wiring. The last shop that wired up a graph for me put the ground on the hot wire to the bilge pump. found it the first time the pump came on.
I teach a course in automotive electricity so I offered to teach the course to his people. He said they had been trained at all the outboard schools, and wasn't interested.
I wasn't impressed.

It's a ways to drive but I use Guy Breedlove at Caney Creek Marine at Lake Fork. His Shop is across from The Minnow Bucket on 154. He is reasonable, does quality work, and is good at what he does. I have had my boat serviced only by him since it was new. Oh, by the way, I purchased the Raycraft from him in Dec. 1996. He's no magican just a real good boat mechanic. His phone # is 903-878-2727, tell him Ted Kelly sent you.

I think Jerry on here is sponsored by Advantage Marine. You might e-mail him and see if he can get anything done.
