Just wondering if whitetail deer liver would work as a catfish bait. I had a liver this last season that was left out too long before being frozen and it started to smell funny. I cut it into cubes and froze it anyways thinking it may work as bait. I have not tried it yet. I know bird livers and beef livers are suppsoed to work. Anyone ever used it or heard of anyone using it?

Don't know but based on the funny smell I would sure give it a shot. thumb Nothing to lose but a little time.

Never used it. I am sure it will work though. When we are down at the ranch and dont have any bait we just shoot a rabbit and use the insides for bait and the cats love it. That is on small private lakes though.

I bet it would work great especially if you fished with it within a couple days and did not freeze it.

I had some old backstrap in the freezer and tried it off my dock and it worked very well. The only thing is the meat turned white after about 10 minutes in the water losing it's punch. Just had to rebait often.

I am sure it would work and I am also sure it will bleed out quickly and need to be changed often like any liver.

I use deer blood to sour with my wheat and corn.It works great!Whenever we we fish a spillway we just take a cup of blood out of the bucket and pour it in the slow current. If any cats are down stream they come up in a hurry.I dont see why not a liver would be any differant?I would put in a blender first.Dont be afraid to thin it out with water when the bucket gets low.Oh,I have used it for bait before and could not really tell a big differance. The best I have found is use it for chumming and use punch bait on a treble.

I just fished with venison for the first time last week not liver though. I got a lot of bites on it but couldn't hook anything. I did find that I had to rebait often. They would mess with for a while then leave it alone after it had been in the water a while. The trusty night crawler worked better that day.
