Put the wife (DBwoman)on the fish this morning. Got to the lake around 0830, 39 degrees. Foggy as all get out. How many wives would go out fishing in these conditions (I'm a lucky man)? Soon as we stopped to fish WAM Dee had a fish on. Thank you good lord that she didn't get skunked (gotta keep that interest up). Fished till around 12:30 and ended the day with 11 crappie and 2 nice whites. (6 crappie & 2 whites for DBwoman and I came in second with 5 for me. Needless to say that the misses was very HAPPY) Dam outfished again. Had maybe 5 short fish to be caught another day. Dee caught one fish that went around 1.2 lbs. Got one myself that went 2.12 lbs. Fish were in 22 ft of water about 3 cranks off the bottom. All were caught on the edge of a dropoff w/minners and Jigum Jigs. No structure or nothing to hold them just bait fish. It was a beautiful morning again, no wind the lake was as smooth as a baby's butt and the sun eventually came out. Here's the pics. Sorry no pics of the whites. Didn't think about it. Since this is the CRAPPIE FORUM.
cheers

All fish caught!!!!!

Big fish of the day. 2.12 lbs weighed on my new postal scale I purchased for the weigh ins @ the Granger Lake Tournaments this year.

Great job and YES, YOU ARE A LUCKY MAN! It was foggy and froze my butt off at the slips this morning, but caught some and enjoyed the short time I was there.

Tell me you're secret, because my wife is one of those "girly" types who needs all the amenities and has hard time staying in a cabin, much less in a tent, going fishing, or what not.

I don't force this issue.

Glad DBwoman had a good time. Now If I could just get Mrs BigCat to do the same, I'd definitely be in heaven.

Nice catch! Seems we all had a little sun today. smile

What a weekend... two days of calm winds... Boy that fog was thick! We found them in deep water as well, most seemed to be stacked as DB stated above. Not holding to structure. We spent the day mapping but did get in some tight lines. Started to get bumpy around 3pm today. The boat traffice was up, looked like Lake Travis out there once the fog burned off. Lot's of traffic for a January.

BigCat, Don't have any secrets to get the wife out. She grew up as a country girl. She can be "girly" (got her hair/nails done yesterday and was on the water with me this morning)too but she likes to spend time with me and one of my passions is to fish and so she dresses in her coveralls/hoody/sock cap and gloves and fishes along side me. Thats about the only secret I have except she is very competitive as you can tell from the post. She outfished me today.

Mike, Glad you found a few today. Lot of boats on the lake as you said. Glad we caught our fish early and got off the lake before the fair weather boaters/fishermen/women got on the lake.

Keep on fishing.

DB, I got to the lake at 1pm. or so and only caught one 11 inch fish trolling.
I trolled in the area at the end of fox park and saw a guy anchored out in about 25 ft. of water and was pulling fish out left and right. He pulled up a stringer that looked like had 15 or so crappie. Now I know why there were 4 boats within 50 ft. of that area, they were catching fish.
I would have joined in but that's not my style to barge in on someone's spot. Will just have to try and beat them out there next time I guess.

I'm always in a good mood when I'm fishing.

Good job Dave! I finally got my brush piles put out Saturday night and I can't wait to try them out this weekend. My wife loves to fish too. It's all in getting them to catch fish, feel confident, and it does not hurt if you let them beat you once in a while. :-D They will want to go back everytime after, if they think they can beat you.

Very cool, great job getting the misses on em. Sounds like we might have come across another great fishing spot on the lake...that is to say if they were caught in the same place we fished on Saturday. Congrats on the hawg too, that record will fall one of these days.

Well I guess some people just never learn. DBman continues to take prime spawn pool crappie out of Granger Lake even after he publicly said on this forum he was not going to. DBman said he would not take any crappie over 2 lbs so that this lake would continue to have quality fish. He DB, did you know that every adult female will spawn at least 30K eggs and the older larger fish can spawn upwards of 100K eggs. I believe this is the 5th or 6th fish you have posted a photo of since you went public with your bogus conservation statement. At this rate Granger Lake will continue to be known as the Central Texas Lake full of 9 7/8 crappie. Relax Mr. Tidwell; DBman is fishing Lake Granger now and I got a feeling you will hold the lake record for a long time.

What the heck is the point in that??? Regardless of what anyone ever says on here it's a free country and this is the texasfishingforum not the tb2fishingforum. If you don't have something nice too say than maybe you should keep it to yourself!

DBMAN and DBWOMAN can do whatever they want as long as it's within the rules.

I can appreciate a constructive debate so here's my two cents worth: If the man (DBman) stated he was not going to harvest 2lb fish from the lake then I think he should honor his word. Larger females can spawn as many as 150 - 160 thousand eggs. Harvesting 5 to 6 large females prior to spawning potentially sacrifices a half million fry. Over harvesting although exceptional is not unheard of. Does this lake have a history of producing small undersized fish? If it does then I would think a voluntary conservation practice is certainly appreciated by the local anglers.

Like I said, just my two cents worth.

So some guys can go out and each keep a limit and that's ok as long as they never said that they were going to throw back anything over 2lbs.
