Has anyone else heard about the Texas legislature introducing a bill to keep TPW from spending the $5 Fishery Stamp and using it for other budget needs?
I heard it on the 5am Fishing show on the radio on KRLD. Brian had a man named Sparky Anderson on the radio and suggested that we call the legislators and let them know we do not approve. He said they were going to vote on this on Monday so time is of the essence.
I tried to right down the #'s but I'm not sure about the spelling: Mr. Pitts 512-463-0516 Mr. Ogden 512-463-0105

I hate to be an, "I told you so"....But, over the objections of some, I distinctly remember setting forth the idea that a fishing license increase serves as absolutely nothing more than a tax increase levied by the government. I told you so!

Carper, I would tend to see your apparent side of this issue were it for one or two issues.
Our schools are not underfunded. If you think they are then take a drive and look at all of the mega-fancy super duper schools they are building in every district. They are flat-out gorgeous...why you seldom see nicer buildings except maybe the post office or the law enforcement complexes. HMMMMMM.....wait a minute...seems like the government is the only folks affording such nice digs these days. Fact is we are spending BILLIONS on more and more Fancy - Shmancy - "The School board presidents brother in law is a contractor" buildings every year. MOSTLY because we want a really fancy place for the children of the millions of illegal aliens we for some reason refuse to enforce our immigration laws against. Yet we still won't pay teachers enough to retain the good ones. Go figure.
All the while our wonderful legislature refuses to give us our right to vote on casino gambling, some of which proceeds could be used to help fund education....(yeah- I know they said it before....this time we hold em to it). They think they know better than us poor little folks who can't control our vices. Oh yeah..that's right, the only real legal gambling in Texas is through the state government. HMMMMMM!!! starting to see a pattern here.
Let's see, Who makes the most money off of those evil cigarettes the government spends millions on each year combating their use.......oh yeah....HMMMMMMMMMM! That would be the state and federal government...not the growers and cigarette mfrs.
well I'll be ......I wonder who makes the most money off of that high dollar gasoline we buy....HMMMMMM!!! Same bunch of crooks.
Naw....the state and federal governments have way too much of our money, and they need to put it to better use. If you want to pay for educating the country of Mexico you go ahead. I'm sure they'll take your money.
You get my e-mail Zach?

Sad part is that it has been out of the bottle for some time, and we let it go too long. Now the greed is bringing it more to the forefront. And you'll still get those that will argue about how good a deal we get on our license (tax) fee's.
Just one more cast!

You know, it amazes me that the government can tax us with intent to spend the money for a given purpose. They even put it in writing. Then change their collective minds and do something else with the money. If we ran our businesses that way, we would be sued everytime we turned around. Probably a few criminal charges thrown in too. This is not the only one either. From Social Security to sin taxes, They end up spending the money in the wrong places. This will continue until we fix it at the ballot box. The trouble is that most folks are only mad enough to complain.
Just glad to be here!

If you recall, the whoel purpose of the Texas Lotto was to raise money for the public schools so there would not have to be any consideration for a state income tax. However, it wasn't discovered until later that all the proceeds go into the state's general revenue fund. Not into a special account for the school systems.
ALso, when was the last time the state disclosed how much money the Lotto has made?

I don't want to start ranting but THIS is exactly what I was ranting about when the $5 stamp thing was discused several weeks ago. The politicians can't raise our taxes more cause it is becoming apparent that we will not tolerate it any longer. Now they just call it a stamp and collect the money and then STEAL it later for what ever they couldn't collect taxes on in the fiorst place, all in the name of Well it is better used on the Kids, Roads, Healtcare etc.... the lies go on. Vote Libertarian and take the greedy Bastardos outta office. www.lp.org check it out they have the plan.
I feel more like I do now than I did when I first got here!
