i spoke briefly with the guy who runs it. he said it is in about 30 feet with structure suspended at about 15 feet. it does not sound like the action is fast and furious, but he said they are catching some. i will try it in the next couple of days and report back.

well, me and one of my boys tried it last night and this morning. the night bite was bad!! fished till about 11:00 pm with two crappie. left two poles with minnows and went to bed. got back down to the barge at about five and both poles still had live minnows. from six to eight we caught 7 nice crappie as well as a sand bass and a large blue gill. all on minnows, never got a bump on a jig.

i did hook up four times with very large fish. twice i never saw the fish as i could not turn it before breaking off. the other two were big buffalo. one was in the mid to upper teens, and the other was much larger. i fought it for a long time with my ul w/6lb. once i got it to the top he took one look at us, flapped his big tail and was gone! i feel lucky just to have seen him.

over all it was a very fun trip. week day cabin rental about 80 bucks. if you stay there you fish for free. otherwise fishing is 5.00 per person. clean, well lighted place with very friendly people running the store and a great old man (82 yrs.) named Jack
that fishes almost everyday starting about 5:30.

give it a try!

wrj... jack, the old-timer i meet there, told me there was another not to far from juniper cove. he said that it sat in less than 10 feet of water and he has not done as well there recently. i do not know the name of it or which is older.

meeting guys like him are a great reason to fish a spot like this from time to time. he has me by almost 50 years and i only hope to get around as well when (God willing) i get there.

I used to fish the barge thats in the deep water about 15-20 years ago. Only problem was it was a little small, didn't open until 8:00am and every local was lined up at 7:00am waiting for it to open. Got tired of missing "prime" crappie fishing time and fighting for a spot to fish, so have never gone back.

Maybe I should giv'er another whirl!

fnf,
you can now fish it 24/7 with an honor box to pay and security cameras to keep the nuts out. there is a place to get bait and snacks just down the road if the store at the barge is closed.

I remember fishing at Juniper when I was less than 10 years old. I remember going with my grandfather. We were very close. I'm 38 now. It was a totally different barge, in a different spot. The wooden frame where the walkdown used to be was still there the last time I fished at Juniper. The walkdown to the barge was very steep! There were four (I think) 8'x3' "sections" cut out for fishing. Each section was in a corner. I've never seen another barge made quite like that. The water was very deep, and the fishing was good. I'll always remember it because of going with my pa-paw. I still miss him. Does anybody else here remember that barge?
