I used to fish Whitney a lot, but the golden algea really reduced the crappie's numbers.

I tried hard last spring and fall, but I couldn't catch anything in good numbers but catfish.

I even went up the Nolan to all my old holes and had poor luck.

We did catch some crappie fingerilngs in a cast net while we were chasing shad to put on our jug-lines, so if the good Lord is willing maybe the crappie will make a come back in Whitney.

I've been wearing them out at painted rock. Caught 18 on Sat. and limited on Sun. of last week. Most were over a pound with a fue 2 ponders in the mix.

Where is painted rock? I've been fishing Whitney for years and have never heard of it. Maybe just know it by a different name.

I am going there also. I would also like to know if anyone is catching anything at Lake Whitney Marina in Juniper Cove. I have fished on Whitney some and I have never heard of Painted Rock. I would appreciate any information.

During the 1990's there was a flood. The water level was very high. There's a rock somewhere on the lower end of the lake that sticks out of the water. On that rock is a mark (Paint actually) where the water level was.

I think that's what he was talking about? I'm not sure though.

Rocks sticking out in the water could be anywhere from Cedron Creek to the dam on the West side. Thanks for the info., FuturePharmD.

painted rock is about 6 miles up the Brazos from Kimble park. It got its name for the Indian paintings in the area.

It'll be on your right going up the river from Kimble Bend - river may be low so stay in the main river channel....

I've got a picture of it somewhere on my other computer - will try to retrieve it and post it so you have an idea of what it looks like.
