What size and brand of cast net do most of you use. I have been using the cheap 4 ft nets from Wal Mart but just ordered a Betts 7 ft 1/4 in mesh.

Gook luck in throwing it!!
The bigger nets are hard at first. make sure everything is out of the way. I use Betts also. I just have to use a smaller one off the bow of a pontoon boat due to the rails.

I throw a 6' and that's all I've ever used. took me a while to learn it....I caught a lot of leaves in the front yard learning it...but now it opens full about 95% of the time.

Most of the time I use an Old Salt(Betts) 1/2" mesh. I'm not after small shad. 1/2" mesh will sink faster and at this site its cheaper than other 7' nets that I know of. If shad are deeper than 20' I go to a heavy 7' panel net.

Yep, the 7' panel net is nice but it takes a bit of practice to get it going. I like the Fitec mono nets in 1/2 inch with 1 1/2# lead/ft. It'll wear a feller down pretty quick but a few good throws usually gets the job done.

I saw this on another thread on cast nets. It's supposed to really help, especially with the bigger diameter nets. Anybody ever buy and use? http://perfectcirclenetthrower.com/

I can't remember the brand name but it's 6' and has the metal ring thing that makes it easy to throw. Purchased at Wally World.

I've got one on a 6' Betts. It rocks and you won't wear yourself out casting it. It really comes in handy casting from a boat.
