Since the weather looks cold and rainy all week. How do you guys think the crappie will be doing in the creeks? Is it worth trying out, since it will be really cold? I know some of you hardcore guys will say yes, but how does this cold effect the fish?

It won't be rainy all week Mr. Stryker. Mainly today and this evening. After that, rain and/or winter mix precipitation chances will be slim to none. It will be cold though.

There was another thread about this same topic on page 2 or 3. Fish will still bite when it's cold, even post-frontal (which we are expecting two of this week (Tues and Thurs mornings). If you fish deep enough like 10' or greater, the fronts this time of year shouldn't quite have the effect they do in the Spring or Fall months when the fish tend to be a little shallower.

Creek fishing may be tough post-frontal though, but if you fish boat slips, submerged brush piles from a boat, or barge with deep enough water, I'd think you'd be fine. Just fish your jigs slow.

Good luck.

I've worked for the NWS nearly 15 years now in 5 different offices around the country. Whether that makes me an expert, I dunno, but I'll just say I try my darndest to put a decent forecast out when I'm on the desk. Only Friday looks like it could have a chance of junk.

Otherwise, it'll be cold until the weekend, then a warm up Sat/Sun.

Good luck.

Eric,
I just wanted to share a giggle with you.

Every time someone poses a weather question on here and I see your response, I can't help but think of the movie "Groundhog Day".

When that old woman asks Bill Murray what he thinks the weather is going to do, when she doesn't know that he's a weatherman, and he goes in to this long explanation.

Just cracks me up.

I know return you to your regularly scheduled program. laugh

PER NOAA:

Wednesday night: Mostly cloudy, with a steady temperature around 35. North wind around 15 mph, with gusts as high as 20 mph.

Thursday: Mostly cloudy, with a high near 42. North northeast wind between 10 and 15 mph, with gusts as high as 20 mph.

Thursday Night: A chance of freezing rain and sleet after midnight. Cloudy, with a low around 31. East wind around 10 mph. Chance of precipitation is 30%. Little or no snow accumulation expected.

Friday: Freezing rain likely before noon, then rain likely. Cloudy, with a high near 35. Southeast wind around 10 mph. Chance of precipitation is 70%.

Friday Night: A 20 percent chance of rain. Mostly cloudy, with a low around 35. South wind between 5 and 10 mph.

Saturday: Mostly cloudy, with a high near 56. West southwest wind around 5 mph becoming south southeast.

Saturday Night: Mostly cloudy, with a low around 44. South southeast wind around 5 mph.

Sunday: Mostly cloudy, with a high near 62. South wind between 5 and 15 mph.

WINTER STORM WATCH REMAINS IN EFFECT FROM LATE THURSDAY NIGHT
THROUGH FRIDAY MORNING...

SLEET IS EXPECTED TO DEVELOP INITIALLY LATE THURSDAY EVENING IN
THE FAR WESTERN ZONES OF NORTH TEXAS...THEN CHANGE TO FREEZING
RAIN AS PRECIPITATION SPREADS EAST THROUGH MORNING. WINTRY
CONDITIONS CAN BE EXPECTED ALONG AND WEST OF A LINE FROM
SHERMAN...TO MESQUITE...WACO...AND TEMPLE. TEMPERATURES WILL
LIKELY REMAIN BELOW FREEZING THROUGH THE MORNING HOURS AND ENOUGH ACCUMULATION
TO IMPACT TRAVEL IS EXPECTED...ESPECIALLY IN THE FAR WESTERN
ZONES. CONDITIONS WILL IMPROVE FRIDAY AFTERNOON AS TEMPERATURES
WARM ABOVE FREEZING AND THE SYSTEM MOVES EAST.

A WINTER STORM WATCH MEANS THERE IS A POTENTIAL FOR SIGNIFICANT
SNOW...SLEET...OR ICE ACCUMULATIONS THAT MAY IMPACT TRAVEL.

Can't say you're wrong, Jeff. After I've responded to a few of these "weather" topics, I've come to realize that maybe I should just leave em' alone and just worry about the crappie, which is why I'm on here anyway.

Thanks for the comparison though, as I have no problem laughing at myself. It's just soooooo tempting!

Oh..I'm not laughing at you. I just get that Bill Murray image in my head and it makes me giggle.

I'm glad to have someone here that can help us and shoot us as straight as possible on the weather scene. Thanks for your contribution.

All I know is tonight between 9:15 and 9:45 PM, fishing at the mouth of a culvert in 7 ft of water, crystal clear by the way, under a street light, took 7 nice fat crappie! Tricolor microtube, unpainted jig head, vertically jigging into the culvert opening! NOT THAT COLD!!!! DEAD CALM WATER. NO WIND, Woulda stayed longer but wife called and said soup was on!

No problemo Jeff and wasn't taking it personally. I realize sometimes my personality takes me down that road sometimes.

Thanks to you guys and all on TFF for making my crappie intellect higher than it ever was before I joined a few years back.

Rudy, sounds like you did very well. I was at the EM slips for a few hours Thursday afternoon and got one giant, then just 4 undersized ones. Didn't matter, I was just happy to be jiggin' and have the place to myself. NO WIND EITHER.

My wife called as well to say the chili would be ready and not to be late. LOL
