Let’s do something that has not happened at our creek, ever. I would like to do this on the 20th of this month, January (the Sunday coming up). All of us combined could pick up a lot of litter on the banks of Rowlett Creek. Plus, everyone can meet each other from here.
For those that are just tuning in, the sand bass run is awesome in this creek. But there are those whom do not appreciate the creek to what it stands for. (A nursery for the next sand bass run).

So, whoever gets the most trash bags (full), will win a guided trip with me to catch sand bass in Rowlett Creek.
Some rules apply. (Rules will be stated at noon Sunday the 20th) – GET THERE AT ABOUT 11 AM FOR SIGN IN.

-We NEED PICKUP TRUCKS TO DISSPOSE OF THE TRASH AFTER THIS ADVENTURE -

This will be at Firewheel Bridge just East of Centerville (where you pop the curb and go down to the creek).

Tight lines – Carey.

If it isn't too cold I will bring my son (6) to help. No guided trip needed, just doing my part. I am going to be in Garland anyway. Again, it can't be too cold b/c he is coming down with a cold this morning and I don't want him to get worse before returning to school.

this is a classy thing of you to do. it really gets under my skin when people can't carry out what the have brought in. i have a 5,7,and a 10 year old that fish with me alot. my 5 year old even knows better than to even leave a candy wrapper behind. i will do my best to make it. Sundays are busy for us. i hope that you get a big turn out.

Carey,
Is it legal to park there? I thought I've seen no parking signs around there. I have seen cars parked there but was wondering if that's legal. I may try to make it, to help out. Great that you are organizing this. I also have a canoe. Maybe we can do a trash float one day

John 5:24 Very truly I say to you, whoever hears my word and believes him who sent me has eternal life, and does not come into judgment, but has passed from death to life.

1Peter 3:18 For Christ also suffered once for sins, the righteous for the unrighteous, that he might bring us to God, being put to death in the flesh but made alive in the spirit.

i brought my brother and a good friend down there a couple years ago, and they both had a ticket on their wiper when they got back to the cars. the way that the signs are posted does'nt make it very clear of were you can park

Yes, Rowlett Creek is a nature preserve and motor vehicles aren't allowed. I'm kind of annoyed you're telling others to "pop the curb" and drive on in. frown The parking lot on Centerville road at Castle drive is the only 'official' parking on the east side of Rowlett creek. I would suggest contacting the Garland Parks and Rec. department, maybe they can open the gate at the back of the parking lot and let you guys drive in on the maintenance road for your cleanup day. They give access to the mountain bike club so they can build and maintain their trails.

Thanks and good luck.

It is not legal to park there. I spoke with both Rowlett and Garland police departments and both agreed that it is not legal to park there. (I spoke to both because I was not sure whos jurisdiction it fell under.) I have always seen cars down there but don't want to get a ticket. I would contact the cities first and see what they tell you and what kind of help they will give. We have done the same thing with Duck Creek, but when the city gets involved, more gets done.

I'm confused about the parking. I noticed Tarpon Fly is talking about parking at Firewheel. You can hop the curb there on the southeast side of the bridge and park down there. You won't get into the area where the bike trails are. I fished there only twice last year, but it was loaded with vehicles both times, nobody got ticketed, maybe we were just lucky.
The Parking area at Centerville and Castle is actually on the west side of the creek. Big parking lot, lots of bike trails.Definitely would not want to hop a curb here.
Either way its a great thing yall are doing. Might not want to call the parking thing at Firewheel to the city's attention, might raise a flag and they'll start ticketing folks for parking there and scroo the pooch for everybody. This is the city that led the way on red light cameras.
