I have read this thread with interest. Since I am known as a con-O-sewer of crappie filets, and have never caught one of these stripe headed fish, that for dietary concerns, regarding the safety of handling and ingesting these fish, a study should be made by an independent source (namely, ME), to ensure there are no carcinigens or toxic chemicals embedded in these anomolies of nature. My study would encompass the ingesting of 12-15 filets per week for a period not to exceed 6 months, at which time I would post my results on this professional and informative site. For those of you that would like to assist in this project, the fish would have to be filleted in a sterile environment, washed, flash frozen and packed in dry ice for shipment to my laboratory. It is a potentially dangerous position for me to take but since retirement I do have the time and interest to ensure the safety of the fishermen on the TFF site.
