What are the options for a slightly bent Motorgude 71lb digital trolling motor shaft? I hit a submerged tree today with the all the way in the water. Put a quite a good been in the shaft.
The foot control did not have its normal range.

When I got home I put the motor at its shortest level and tried the foot control range. It hung up a bit and I manualy forced it and it broke loose. It now has full range of motion but it does have small grinding noises at various points.

I am sure this is not good. My question is do I need to replace or can this be fixed at a decent price.

This is a 2 year old Motorguide 71lb digital.

Thanks in advance for help.

It can be fixed but not sure on the price. The only place that I know of is All Star Marine and Electronics in Dallas. I'm sure that there are other places where you can take it but this place was where I went a couple years age for the same problem.

Boris marine in Ft. Worth worked on one for me years ago,I guess they are still in business.Sometimes they can straighten one if it's not to bad or they will just replace the shaft.

This is my first boat so I was wondering if a shaft could be repalced. I don't see an easy way to do it. The motor and foot control seem to be working fine.

Doubt the minn koat would have held up in this scenario but I will keep this in mind.

All Star can fix it. Need to get it in before the rush hits. There use to be a guy on Fork out in front Lake Fork Marina.

No doubt a Minn Kota could of took it.

I had a Motor Guide for about 3 years, and had the shaft worked on about 10 times in that period for bending the shaft.

I picked up Minn Kota a few years ago and have not had the bent shaft problem anymore.

My suggestion. Repair shaft and sell it and buy a Minn Kota.

It's worth it in the long run...........

I bent my Minn Kota and called them up and begged them to send me a new shaft. The "LADY" told me I couldn't install it myself. Well I knew I could but could not convince "HER" because she didn't know what I was talking about. Very frustrating. Now I run a Motorguide 82 with remote control and all.
