Has anyone fished Canyon Lake lately?
Is the fishing always this poor?
Any tips or ideas of areas to go. I have maps for the lake as well as GPS, if that helps.
Thanks

I feel your pain.. It takes a long time to learn those big deep clear water lakes. The best advice I can give is to hire a guide and learn from them... it's the only short cut but it can be expensive to start but pays back in the long run...

Man I used to live in that area and fished that lake a lot. I could never catch fish in the lake. The only place is to go up the river and you can find some big cats up their.

Try running up the river a bit. I'm going to try and do a scouting trip on Sunday to record the structure. The white bass should be running withing the next month or so. My coworker has told me that you could limit out in crappie, as well on certain spots towards the riverso I'm going to try that out, too. We were able to come across some smallies in the coves, and we had a blast using lighter gear. They were only 1-2 pounders but they were fun! Steven

Go smaller (tackle and line) deeper and slower. Presentation is everything at Canyon.

Rebeca Creek is a great place to fish for both Cat and white bass if you have a boat or not. Take 281 North until you see the big golfball on the side of the road go right and follow the boat ramp signs. Run jug lines round the stumps and throw ne of ur jigs inlines and what not in 6-10 ft of water around the banks and stuff. You can also catch a few large mouth in there too with dark colored soft plastics.
Politicians, baseball players, high-powered corporate CEO's they all seem to eventually let us down. Nature, however, does not. Look to her for inspiration and you will learn the secrets to living a good life. The most Important lesson it would seem is to make sure you spend as much time fishing as anything else.

From San antonio, I fish this lake alot. Small mouth seam to be the fish to target here. I'm not sure of the name of the locations of the lake, but there is a nice deep cove on the northside of the lake just after the river hits the lake. Went about 2 weeks ago and pulled 10 small mouths out of there. There is a boat ramp in this cove if that helps. I carolina rigged a watermelon brush hog and fished it very, very, very slow. Bite was very light. More often I saw my line start to swim without feeling the bite. Biggest was pushing 3 lbs, rest were keepers but small. Canyon Lake is a tough lake to fish. Don't get discouraged and fish slow. This has been best recipe for me on Canyon. For real fun go to Choke. Further drive but 10 lb+ can happen on any cast. Good luck, hope this helps.
