I am relatively new to the crappie fishing scene as I haven't fished seriously in 10 years when I was much younger. I have been reading archived posts on here for a couple of days and had a couple of questions I was hoping I could get some feedback on.

What would be a good entry level color fish finder. I am not looking to spend anymore than $800 on the unit. Also when guys are scouting the bridges, brushpiles, and deep points, does running the big motor spook them or it ok to idle over the top of them and still get an accurate fish representation.

Also as a side note I can remember as a kid, the fish stacking up under the bridges at Lake Fork. I was curious how much longer before they move up there from the dam.

graph go with a eagle for the best and cheapest imo.
big motor again imo depends on the depth of water your in. to me imo when scouting for brushpiles is to run the big motor and when you find a brushpile throw a bouy and fish it and see what happens. check on it different times of the day. as in all fishing water temps and seasonal movements will decide on where to look for the crappie. as far as the bridges late sprinf thru late fall has been my best months.
also if you put where you are on your profile people can tell you more the lakes in your area. each lake is different as far as cover and such. me im by cedar creek and hubbard and a bunch of smaller places noone knows abouts but all are diferent because of available structure and such. i have a lake that has no cover what so ever in it and they relate to the depth and it took me a cpl years to figure them out but now can go any time of year and catch them when others go home with nothing. but with crappie brush and such plays a big part but it depends on the time of year. spring go shallow next to deep water or flooded weeds for the spawn summer go to docks or deeper water with brush and sharp drops or channels. fall go back shallow but not as shallow as spring then winter go deep in channels or main lake points with bait fish present.
now im rambling i dont post much on here but been here for years lol but main thing is to experiment on your lake and find them. or post what lake you mainly fish will alo help since all are different

maybe Lowrance LMS-522C IGPS Sonar/GPS Chartplotter with Built-In GPS+WAAS Antenna or something like it. Go to a good shop and ask a lot of questions. I was the same way last year when I got back to fishing.
I have a 334c by the console and a x67c on the front.

I have been able to find a Humminbird 797c2 for $850 online. Any thoughts on this unit?
