The problem with those areas are they are loaded with "tourist" guides, now willing to work real hard for quality fish, lotsw of anchoring off chunkin dead mullet for Reds, etc. The only real hardcore guide I know of in the area is Jay Watkins. Not saying there aren't others but he is very well known for quality.

It really depends on what type of fishing you want to do, wade drift or as said fishing on bottom with bait. Now Jay is great but he only wades and fishes with arty's. Harold is one of the good guys will do what you want but he guides out of Seadrift TX, so first you need to let us know what or how and when you want to fish then maybe the list will be cut in half. There are good guides in Rockport, Port A that have their own way of fishing and some are tourist guides.

Cliff and Jay used to fish tournaments together. I don't know either of them to ever use live or dead bait. Artificial is the only way to go if you really want to fish....JMO though

Thnks for the reply.

im looking for a "good experiance". im looking to avoid the "meat guide." the one that cant get the limit fast enuff, so he can get you out of his hair. if im going to drop 5-600 bucks i would like to stay on the water the majority of the day.

i am not looking to fill the freezer with fish. also will be using lures. i would like to wade or drift for above average trout and reds. am looking to book around april or may. also seadrift and CC arnt to far away. i will get to do one good guided trip this year and want to make it a good one.

hoper this helps and again thnks for the input.

As I mentioned bove, if you don't want a meat haul and a 3 hour trip stay away from Port A. and go south to CC and fish. Lots of good guides who make a living pursuing trophy fish. If you only get one trip, make it count and go south my friend!

We just got back....... Look at my post in the photo forum. Duck hunting on Monday and red fishing on Tuesday. Thier lodge was awesome and included EVERYTHING.

Watch the vidoes for both fishing and hunting on the website....Oh Black Betty!

PM me if you more information.

We used Gary Coopers Guide Service in Port A. 361-749-4533 or
361-749-5252. Had a great time and he put us on the fish.

If you go south to CC, you might check with Jon Fails. One of the most experianced guides for the Laguna Madre and Baffin Bay. A great guy to spend the day with.
