My son-in-law Ken just returned from a 15 month tour of duty in Iraq, he is a CAV Scout and is now in Dallas for three weeks, he wants to go fishing..I am still learning Lake Lewisville and would like to try and get him on some Hybrids, it would be so much fun for him after Iraq, so any advise would be appreciated on where to look at this time of year. There are some really good fisherman out there who can help....

Thanks a bunch...Steve

Steve, come on down to Killeen and we can show you guys Lake Belton. You can also post up on the Belton Bunch thread and get some information about belton, I would be happy to take you and your son out, but there are many other BBers that are more proficient in catching those hybrid than I but your more than welcome to come along. We're actually having a small group tourney, more of a get together next Saturday if you want to drive down I'm sure there will be room on some boats, I can fit both you guys myself. Tell your son welcome home and thanks for serving.

Lewisville is hit and miss this time of year. It can be really good or really bad. For Hybrids, watch for birds in the main lake. The Hickory Creek area can also be good. Its been my experience that Hybrids don't orient to structure as much this time of year but they do orient to the thermocline and bait. The hybrids will usually be suspended in water depths from 35-55 ft. Watch for long streaks on your graph. Try a throwing a one ounce swim bait (sassy shad, curly tale grub, wildeye, etc.) Chartreuse is my favorite but white and other colors will work. Throw it out as far as you can and let it sink, then reel it in with a slow steady retrieve. Also try dead sticking a 1-2 oz slab or swim bait at the depth you're marking the fish.

GOOD LUCK

Joe

Do what Bigdad said. Even if the birds are not diving check out the areas where they are circling - they see something and usually they are over deeper bait.
Tell your son in-law thanks for his service.
