Robertson Park (I-30 & Dalrock) is good. You'll need to cast it out there a good distance. I've seen good catfish caught there and also sandbass - but Jan could be tough. http://maps.google.com/maps?ie=UTF8&hl=en&ll=32.869243,-96.514721&spn=0.017121,0.028925&z=15&om=1
If you can brave the rocks, the rip rap on the south incline of the I30 bridges can be excellent. The cove (east bridge, southwest corner) has plenty of small bass and a ton of snakes when it is warm. http://maps.google.com/maps?ie=UTF8&hl=en&ll=32.875947,-96.51073&spn=0.00856,0.014462&z=16&om=1
There is a crappie barge at 30 just east of Dalrock - North side of bridge. I've been in there a couple of times scouting and saw decent stringers of crappie. Sometimes a stange mix of folks in there fishing, but they seem nice enough. http://maps.google.com/maps?ie=UTF8&hl=en&ll=32.879569,-96.52442&spn=0.00856,0.014462&z=16&om=1
There is also a long stretch of shore with several fishing piers in the park @ BassPro & 30. It is on the North side of 30, west of BassPro drive on Zion Road. I've seen a little of everything caught here; crappie, cats, bass, carp... http://maps.google.com/maps?ie=UTF8&hl=en&ll=32.864142,-96.549697&spn=0.008561,0.014462&z=16&om=1

I was in town for business and looked around for bank spots for the next time I'm in town. I went to the park at I-30 and Dalrock, and some guy spotted me and decided to follow me. I grew up in the area, and I know that some guys go to the public parks looking for casual encounters, if you know what I mean. Nevertheless, I am sure if you have fishing gear, these guys will leave you alone, but be aware.

Anybody know of any good creeks around the lakes for crappie whites?

Most people will say I'm nuts. But you can catch some whites in Rowlett Creek in January. Not the big females usually but there will be males in the creek soon. In fact I've already caught a few in the past couple weeks.
