Anybody been out there? Wondering if there's any flow this year. It should start to happen pretty soon if there is...

Only thing scaring me is that LCRA is going to lower all the Highland Lakes in early January...hope they don't lower it too far that it keeps them from reaching Reimer's. So...nobody has been up there yet?

LCRA only lowers Lake LBJ and Lake Austin....So, Reimers Ranch on the Pedenales River, will NOT be hurt...IMO.
I have never been there by land, just by boat. That has been a while. Last few years, Lake Travis was LOOOOOOOOOOW

Well, the water is high and clear. Looks beautiful as always, but the fishing ain't so hot yet. Fished for about 4 hours and not a bite from anything other than bream. Met a biologist out there with the Park Ranger that said that LCRA does from time to time lower Travis if they are expecting a lot of rain. That doesn't look to be a problemt his year though. He said that there are rainbow trout in there that wash in from a creek close by during floods. I had no idea that trout are in there! They stock them somewhere close by...give it a few weeks and they should be arriving!

What floods? If you mean the floods from last summer, the trout would be somewhere close to the gulf by now...Be sure and take pics of the trout you catch.
What creek? Did he say? Lemme know. R
Where do they go when they're not there???

Yeah...I wasn't aware of any trout stocking location that close to Austin. Guess I'll be calling the rangers that monitor the Pedernales/Travis stretch. The ones I spoke to at Reimer's a few years back were some good, decent fellas and even identified a Gobi that wound up in my seine. Trout?! Weird... Not unbelievable though. A rainbow found its way into my seine last spring in a different river. I bet Chief and I are part of a select few to have seined a rainbow trout in TEXAS The run is still at least a month or 2 away for that place IMHO. And speaking of the lowering of LBJ: Any thoughts on the impact this will have on the run up the Llano? Anybody have experience with this in the past during routine lowerings? RangerR? RAM?

I went to The Slab last weekend also. I walked all the way down to where Honey Creek comes in, about 2.5 miles. Found VERY little water deeper than knee high. Nice couple gave me a lift back to the Slab. The flood washed it in a bunch they said...had an eight foot deep hole in there property for years that is now a foot and a half deep. I live on the canal on LBJ and they are already lowering the lake. About a foot and half so far. I think they will still run, but I don't know how far they can get up. My guess is that more whites than usual will follow the Colorado current this year since the Llano is running with any force yet. As far as the rainbows at Reimer's, the guy told me that he and a couple of his buddies each caught trout over 23 inches about three years ago. He caught a 28.5 inch! He seemed pretty credible, but I just don't remember the name of the creek off-hand. I will try to find a map of the area to refresh my memory. I reckon I will be headed to Sommerville and Buchanan this year for whites and stripers. Reimer's later in the season...one of the prettiest places in the state!

I usually don't visit those places. Especially these days. I have fun doing the 3hr tour up Travis by boat for magnum whites or fishing my favorite spots at my favorite time of day on Buch.
We need to get together soon KillerB. It's time.
I haven't seen a trout since I fished for them in NB years ago. I just hate crowds.
Most of they guys I have ever met from LCRA are good people. I had a good responce from an LCRA scientist at the end of the floods last summer when I asked how it would affect oxygen content on Buch and Travis. What a bunch of good guys.
If my feet didn't get so cold these days I would be fishin' right now! Last week the cold really bit me.

My experience with Reimers and Hamilton Pool area is that the whites run in February, late February, and some years have hung around as late as early April. Of course it all hinges on water availability and current flow, just like anywhere else.
Reimer's is one of the most scenic fishing areas ANYWHERE!! Love it down there!!!

I have fished at riemers my hole life... The time to go is two weeks before spring brake, give or take a week or two. Its mother nature and her calendar can be much different from ours.
