 Buddies huge crappie on the ice!! Up north!!

Im from Des Moines Iowa and my buddy got this one yesterday. The ice is 9in thick and this little guy went 17.9 and just a hare over 3lbs. It's his second over three in two years. Caught on a St Croix 2.5in rod on a 1/64 jig tipped with a meal worm. He thought he had a walleye and was very pleased when this came out that little hole!

Nice Fish, but dang thats a short rod! That's what I was about to say! I can't wait to get the EM slip going, because just drove my father-in-law and 4 yr old son out to LL Barge and missed 2 in 3 hrs. About it. If I'm not going to catch anything, I'd rather just drive the 15-20 mins over to EM. Did meet an old guy and his son (who I gave our minners to). He was from Iowa, but didn't say where.

Nice Fish, but dang thats a short rod! Well in an ice shanty you sit on a bucket and 2 and a half feet are as long as you want. They are very stiff. They have a metal spring device on the tip for sensitivity and to detect bite's. These are the same rods people pull out 40lb lake trout and pikes with.

Nice ice Crappie. I just spent 7 days in Idaho fishing, But the lakes aren't ready for ice fishing yet. Well at least not in southern Idaho. I still want to do it.
