I saw the post the other day on the transom savers. I called Skeeter and asked if they had a preference towards the old style transom saver or the new Pro Rule type. The lady was very nice but responded that Skeeter did not want to give an opinion either way. So, my question is, what is the advantage of the new style over the old style? Does the old style help take some of the weight off the transom or does it just tie the motor to the trailer for more abuse to the transom due to bouncing.
Thanks

Just got mine this week and love it, very handy, and will fit in boat storage in the back, no strap to mess with, great idea the folks at Pro-Rule came up with

This is just my opinion! The Pro Rule or Stow n Loc are not transom savers. They are skeg savers if your hyds. leak down while trailering. The original transom saver is by far the best way to eliminate stress on the transom while trailering. As long as the boat is secured to the trailer with proper transom tie downs then it will not bounce.

thank you Tommy. I was the one who actually called Eldon yesterday and asked the question on the benefits, and to explain what the difference is- according to what stress is relieved off the transom. I agree with the transom tie down theory- the boat shouldnt bounce. if the boat is bouncing that much, you need to slow down.
I think its a great product, and applaud the people who are making them. The newer boats wont have the same issues I would have with my old 1997 Skeeter, as far as transom stresses. A new boat can be held up by the transom - just look at the next boat show how that boat is suspended in air.... My old 1997, I wouldnt dare put the full wieght of the motor on the transom only and trailer it- for fear that the fiberglass stringer supports would break loose.
I think these new motor supports will work for the newly designed boats with "super" stringers engineered into the transoms... as for my old boat, and others- I would be afraid of extra stress to the transom..... I am no rocket scientist, this is just my humble opinion.

Ronnie, Not to disagree with you, but even with the new manufacturing processes it is still important to support the weight of these big motors, some weighing over 500lbs. I believe the reference to a boat being shown at the boat show is the Skeeter product. The only way they get by with doing it is because of all the aluminum knee bracing and supports used in their construction. I'm not bashing them but you wouldn't want to do that with any other brand of boat!

I've been using it for over a year and it's holding up great. My only word of CAUTION is:
ALWAYS MAKE SURE YOU HAVE IT SET OVER THE TRIM PISTONS ALL THE WAY, OTHERWISE, I heard a horror story where a guy didn't do that and he bent the trim pistons when lowering the motor. IT MUST BE SEATED ALL THE WAY or you can do damage.
Just thought I'd point this out.
Jeff

Motor toters(suppoerts) not transom savers. How does this protect your transom?

Ya'll listen to Tommy Yetts please. And look at the pics Tracker Tim posted. Then look up 'leverage/fulcrum'in the mechanical sense. Jack up your car with a block and log. When you get the idea, you will know what's happening to your transom as you hit the I-20 swells around Terrell on the way to Fork. Supporting the motor 'below' the point of deflection is best support for the transom. That means the old fashioned transom saver. Takes the motor weight/leverage factor out of the equation. JMHO-J
