When I moved into Texas to Lake Fork last July, all I heard about was, "wait til winter and the crappie will bunch up at the dam and there will be so many boats, you could walk across the water!"

Well, here it is almost Christmas and Im just not seeing it. Exactly when is this supposed to happen? It was 27 here last night, high of 44 today, and dropping back to 27 tonight. Id say its winter now.

I was there Last Saturday the 8th and fished before the cold front hit and caught a nice limit down by the dam. There was several boats at all the points, but not as many as there will be when the wind is calm. I was deer hunting this week-end, but I will try to make out there next week-end if all goes well.

Ill have to go give it a try then. I havent been seeing very many boats down there at all yet so was just trying tofigure out when it was supposed to kick off since Im new to Fork. It seems like when everyone was talking about it this summer, I was told late Nov to early Dec it would be crazy. I know they are still biting under the bridges but just wanted to see the boat parking lot by the dam Ive heard so much about.

Don't mean to steal your thread but it's along the same subject,
In years past when the flood gates were open and the shad were in the pool below the damn at Lake of the Pines the fishing was elbow to elbow on the bank catching slabs slided crappie. Used to call them bucket size: if they didn't stretch across the top of a five gallon bucket you threw them back to grow up.

It ain't what they call you, it's what you answer to.... W.C.Fields

Nathan I would say that exceptionally warm weather is the reason why ou have not seen the mass of boats yet, water is just getting cold enough to bunch them up in the deep water.

What is the perferred weapon? Jigs or minnows and are they related to a certain type of structure?

Fishin 24-7,

I usually get 2 dozen minnows and put one on one rod and fish a jig on the other and let the fish dictate.....seems they will hit one over the other for awhile and then back and forth....personally I love the 1/8oz jig two cranks off the bottom dead sticking and they hammer it........nice to have both though. They usually just roam the deep gradual points so turn on the locator and idle from shallow to deep until they start stacking and put down 2 rods and drink coffee and fill the ice chest......man I think I have almost talked myself into going now....good luck....
