All, Keep an eye on this thread as things are developing fast and looking good for a fishing seminar at Nails Creek State Park in late January or early February. Many of you have lots to offer other fisherman in regards to skills and information about fishing Texas. This is a very good opportunity to socialize and network with other fisherman and share our good fortune with our neighbors and friends and have some serious fun. If nothing else it will be a golden opportunity to get together and fish, cook, eat and shoot the bull...

My brother has a Boy Scout troop that might be willing to help and participate in whatever we do, so add a bunch of young men to the mix! This is shaping up to be quite an event!

I also know some people at TEXAS A&M University that might have a program that they could do as well.

I'm making contact with other clubs and people I know to make this a big event for the park. Nails Creek Park offers hunting, fishing, hiking, trail riding, camping and nature- bird watching, and is a real great place to kayak and canoe. My focus as always is on the fishing and kayaking but I think we can open this event up for many more folks by expanding the programs that each group can offer. Late February is looking good for this event and is what I'm shooting for. More as it develops.

I worked for Texas Parks and Wildlife all through college. At the park I worked at in Huntsville, there were people planning events all the time and the park was more than happy to help out. I think Nails Creek SP would be more than happy. HLS check with Nails Creek SP, most parks have a regional biologist, maybe we could get the biologist to talk to us about different events. Also I am an Eagle Scout and have connections with my former troop here in Bellville, I know those guys would love to have a campout and earn some community service hours cleaning up the park and maybe we could all take them in our boats and help clean shoreline? PM me if i can be of any help.

HL&S and I are meeting up on Sat. the 15th around 12:00pm at a place called Popeye's for lunch. It's located on the road going to overlook park. This will be a good time to meet and greet fellow fishermen interested in starting something up in the area. charlie petegun2@hotmail.com

Yes, v92c spoke with me earlier, unfortunately neither one of us are going to be able to make it. I am heading to rockport for the weekend to do some R&R. Good luck with the meet and greet. Let me know how it goes.

I could make it to nails park. Not a good crappie fishermen, but hey i have to learn. That is a very good reason to come out and talk to the guys that are good and pick up a few tricks. And get to know some people that share your interests. Or obsession.

Looks like we will be meeting up at Popeye's around Noon on Saturday for all those interested in starting a Somerville crappie club. You know if it's not to cold maybe we should go fish overlook marina after our meeting. I might head out early in the AM to try Nails Creek (walk back to the creek) I don't think we have had enough rain to muddy up the creek to much ...

I'm gonna hit the crappie house at Big Creek Sat. morning before we meet. I've learned that overlooks crappie house is not as deep as Big Creeks, and usually the crappie are in deeper water during the winter. I saw a few caught there last Sat. the whole 10 minutes I was there, and since this new cold front will be here Fri. I suspect the fish will be slow go. At least I should be protected from the wind.

The weather for Saturday looks bad but today might be OK. I'm trying to get out of work so I can head up either Nails or the Yegua before lunch. The forecast is predicting the front to arrive sometime after midnight early AM Saturday. Sometimes the period just before a front hits can be awesome which is what I'm hoping for today!
