No. There is not any type of crappie club in the area. I have been looking at the possibilities of starting something up in the area. Although I live in Houston, all of my kinfolk live in Giddings, and I fish Somerville alot. Been wanting to explore Bastrop, but have not had the time. If anyone would be interested, give me a pm.( or e-mail petegun2@hotmail.com ) maybe we can get a meet and greet together some weekend and see what becomes of it.

Good idea! And to get the club rolling we should all meet at the lake! I'm the president of BVFF (Brazos Valley Fly Fishers) and my club could help anchor an event and I'll bet Nails Creek State Park will be more then willing to host something like this as an annual event. With three major creeks converging near Nails Creek State Park and Newman's Bottom just up the road, maybe we could start the club by planning a creek fishing - crappie & whitebass seminar at the Nails Creek park pavilion. The park will be re-opening for weekend camping in January just about the time people start hitting the creeks. I suggest we plan for the first weekend after duck season!

How about the weekend of Jan 26-27th? Or we could meet at Rocky creek on Dec 29-30 and launch.

I'm a founding member of the BCCC ( Bayou City Crappie Club ) here in Houston, and I would not have a problem helping get a club going. My problem with Nails is my boat is too big to launch there, and I haven't been able to get it back into Nails or Yegua, perhaps with some guidance, I could. Cedar creek I have, but barely. If we were to have a little tourny or something maybe I could catch a ride with someone, it would be great. e-mail me with suggestions petegun2@hotmail.com

Have you tried Overlook or Rocky Creek? Both have good ramps. Rocky Creek has two. Birch Creek also has a very nice ramp. All with good water.

I can put in at any ramp on the lake except for Nails. I usually put in at Overlook ( for it is closest to my house. ) I can run all the way to cedar Creek area, from there it's just an idle, and I've dragged bottom too many times. I have tried running wide open ( only 6" of draft ) but when I go to slow down I'll bottom out. ( been there and done that ) I have walked it out a few times. The thing I need to do is follow someone that knows the west end.

HL&S Please PM me and we will talk. I cant PM you for some reason. It looks like we have some interest in a club. Would you be interested in helping with setting up the club? Tony

For some reason nobody can PM me until I PM them. I suggested Nails Creek State Park because of it's proximity to good creek fishing and the pavilion but not necessarily the best boat ramp. The whole area leading to the creeks is very shallow but the lake is at pool (238) and I've seen many john boats and bay boats in the creeks over the last few years. I use a kayak so shallow water isn't a problem. We will need to talk to the park staff to see what arrangements need to be made for the use of the pavilion and whether they can be involved and how. I hope that the park rangers and the local game wardens will want to be involved and part of the seminar . I'll attempt to get the show going but I will need several people to do presentations or classes on their area of expertise.. If I was to do one it's probably going to be something about fly fishing or jig fishing etc. This area is a very popular duck hunting area so we really need to wait until after the season ends so we don't bug the guys with guns and it's just good manners anyway...
