Does anyone use an electric winch for pulling a jon boat up a river bank?

We're thinking about getting my father-in-law a 3,000 lb electric winch from Tractor Supply that we'll mount to a receiver tube that he can slide into his receiver hitch and use it to pull his boat up.

The problem is the winch can only hold 50' of cable so he'll still have to use extra ropes.

But do you guys think this will work or does anyone currently use this?

i think RedChevy pulls his boat and trailer up the bank of the river with a strong cable and his truck. he has posted some pics of it.
dont know if i want to do it because my boat is heavier and a little bigger.

Look at the winding speed on electric wenches. Something like six feet per minute seems OK for occasionally pulling a stuck jeep out of a bog but if he's pulling 50+ feet then you better get him an extra big battery and a good book to go with it.

I don't see why not, Might depend on the weight of the boat.
We used to pull it with a heavy rope and truck up the bank or bluff then just use the actual trialer winch to get the boat onto the trailer.
Oughta be fine
