Until you have fished Amistad and Falcon you can't really say you have experienced all our great state has to offer. When you do fish those blue diamonds you'll understand why there is something very special about them. It's well worth the trip.
On second thought, the fishing really is not that good. wink

They are both outstanding lakes IMHO. If I had to choose one over the other and could only make one trip it would have to be Falcon right now. It is fished far less than Amistad. That will change pretty quickly I am afraid. The upside for anglers to that is, should that happen and Falcon be the next "go to" place, Amistad will be less pressured.
Whichever lake you may choose, I highly recommend using a local guide first to learn the lakes and the patterns. With the lake levels as they now are, they are huge bodies of water comparing only to Texoma.

I drove and pulled my boat 11 hours to fish Falcon for a week and let me tell you it was worth it. Caught a bunch of fish over 5 pounds, what a week.

I live about 6 hrs from each and I have been to amistad twice and just got back from Falcon today from a five day trip. I will say that the five days I spent at Falcon were the best five days I have fished in my life. To top it off The second day I did not even get a bite! The rest of the time made up for it and Saturday I caught several fish from 4-6 lbs Digital Scale) and 1 monster I never got into the boat beacause of a broken spinnerbait (at the Rbend) that based on the others would have been near 10.

Falcon IMHO is the best kept secret in Texas!
