i have a question about lower units on mercs to help clarify things for myself....if someone could give me some solid information i would gretly appreciate it. i have seen performance lower untis on boats. but does mercury build a lower unit that performance wise is a bolt on application and along with proper propeller match give you more speed? if this is true what can you look to get out of an upgrade like that. MPH,MPG...both? mostly i am looking at diffrent things to pull a Merc 200 EFI and squeeze everything i can out of it MPH wise while keeping the top end stock as possible.
thanks for you input.

not unless your in a performance hull.

mercury does have special lower units such as the sportmaster. And titus and bob's do nose cones for better performance, but you have to run the engine higher to get it. And a nose coned lower unit could actually slow down a boat unless it's running over 80mph.
Nosecones allow for better handling at higher engine heights, and keep the engine from "blowing out".

About the only thing i've ever found that MIGHT help is to sharpen the leading edge of the skeg. this reduces drag. but, again only on a fast hull.

If your trying to get more mph out of an efi, try boyseen reeds, up the rev. limiter, and solid engine mounts, etc.

Best bang for the buck is to have the propeller blueprinted and work on the SETUP of the boat. That's what i do here.

Or just buy a bullet with a 300xs and rock and roll! smile smile

sounds like solid info....what would i got or could i possible gt from those other mods you recomended? performance wise that is. i guess i am asking is what kind of a Speed gain would i be looking at possibly...and are you the guy that does this work....also as i can see yo are the man for bluprint prop and set up i guess huh?....let me know i get about 60 to 62 tops out of my current setup...fully loaded 2 people. 21 ft Sprint with jack plate 4 blade prop....i was told that the 4 blade would be best since the boat is real [censored] heavy and needed to rpms to get out of the water....and the baot will take its sweet time about getting on top from time to time..
