I caught a few fish on Cedar Creek last Saturday. All Hybrids had eggs and a few sand bass had them as well. Do they make eggs during the winter, or is this something unusual? I was just curious.

They have ovaries all the time. Immature eggs start developing shortly after spawn. They will start to ripen towards the end of January and into February/March. Then they will spawn.

Same question comes up every yr about this time, and the same answer is given, but that's ok. It's all good! Now the hybrid eggs will not fully develop, and though they will be dropped, they won't be fertilized, and TPWD will have to do re-stocking.

Although a few of us are convinced that some natural "pollenization" has taken place over the years in several lakes, despite "official" reports stating that is impossible! Nature finds a way, always has.

Chances are 1 in a million that hybrids breed back with non-hybrid fish but since they spawn billions of eggs 1 in a million isn't so rare smile better odds then winning the texas lotto!
