I headed out about 2 PM Friday to locate fish for my daughter and her boyfriend to hit on Saturday. I went straight to the dam and started. I tried spoons, Humdingers, crankbaits, Sassy Shad and a bunch of other stuff, even trolling, and blanked. Not even a bite.

I decided to head up the lake and try the Tawakoni Hump but didn't make it. As soon as I got even with the trees I saw a lot of birds working 'in the trees'. I'd never seen that on Tawak before so stopped to try it. The first 5 casts brought in 3 hybrids and 2 big sandies. I marked that spot on my GPS and headed towards the hump. Still didn't make it. I saw more birds working along the old roadbed through the trees so stopped again. 10 casts brought 3 more hybrids, 3 more sandies and, unluckily, 2 lost lures. Darn trees. I marked that spot and went on to the hump. I didn't cast there, just jigged TNT slabs, but managed 10 smaller sandies, all keepers just smaller, in about 20 minutes. It was getting dark so I headed in.

I considered it a fantastic 3 hours, not many fish but considering the boat travel time it was great. I thought I was ready to get my daughter on the fish. Unfortunately the wind was blowing so hard Saturday we couldn't leave Rabbit Cove. We stuck to catfishing and caught a limit of blues, along with a couple of good channels, from 3 different places in the cove. They ranged from 3 to 12 pounds. Still a great day but not what I had planned. I wish the wind had died just a little so I could have got back on the hybrids.

Oh, the hybrids and sandies came on a variety of lures from Humdingers to TNT slabs to Sassy Shads to Little Cleo spoons. Once you found them I don't think lure selection would really have mattered.

Thanks for the info. The wind was just way to strong for me this weekend. Planning on hitting the lake next week. I've seen the birds in the trees once but I did'nt try to get to them.

Papa - Yes! We saw a mature Bald Eagle on Saturday morning. We were anchored in the west arm of Rabbit Cove catfishing and it flew directly over the boat heading south. My daughter and I both scrambled to get our cameras out for a picture but it was out of range by the time we did it. (It was drizzling a little and we had them stowed.)

We may have also seen an immature one at a distance but, with the drizzle, cloud cover and no binoculars, we couldn't really tell. It was either an immature Bald Eagle or a huge hawk and I haven't really seen that many huge hawks over there.

cool
the first one we saw at tawakoni the wife and i were headed to the little bridge and we saw a bird take off from the trees and she said it was sad that a bird had a jug attached to it
didn't take but a second to realize it was the white tail of an eagle
soon after that, she was sitting on the back porch and a bunch of mallards came hauling butt up our cove and then she saw the eagle giving chase- she still talks about that one
in our 3 years here we have seen at least a dozen and i am still in awe each time i see them, even after a cruise to alaska where we saw a lot of them
glad the fishing trip went well for you and the kids

That is cool! I have only seen 1 on Twak. Another lake close by to see a Bald Eagle is Mill Creek right behind the Walmart in Canton. There is a pair that has wintered there for the past 4-5 years. I have some great film pics of them. Hope to see if I can get some digital pics this year, I just bought a new digital camera with a 10X optical zoom. Hopefully I will be able to share some great pics in the coming months.

YOU JUST CAN NOT FIGHT THE WIND, BUT IT SOUNDS LIKE IT WAS WORTH GOING OUT.
