Just wondering if juglines work as well in the winter as they do in the summer? Any different tactics for placement?

Bigger fish will be a little deeper but you never know so set a few goin from 15' to 50' and see which depth works better for u at that time

Jugs work twice as better for me in the winter.

I catch a lot more fish in the winter. Don't have any fish die on the line in the colder water either.

For me also, winter is the best jugfishing time of the year. You will have much less traffic on lakes and like bigfoot said, the fish will not die on your line. I also fish deeper during the winter, but like buck said, you need to try all depths. I use a five hook jugline during the winter with the bottom hook around six inches off the bottom and the others spaced out to the surface. If you use shad, you should try and catch a bunch and freeze them now since a really cold spell will wipe them out. I use cutbait almost all the time during the winter unless I just have a few live bream.

we have caught a lot of tawakoni cats using weenies (the cheap all meat kind) during the winter when we cannot find shad, the kids usually come during the holidays and the week between christmas and new year last year we sacked em up- we'd rather use shad but did not freeze any for the winter

Hooking a fish is like playing string with a cat. The exact size, shape, color of string matters less than how you wiggle it- and little cats are easier to fool than big ones. John Gierach
