I have fished Raven Lake from the bank since about 1970 and only know of one time that they drained the lake. Thats not to say they dont do it but I havent heard of them doing it every year. I am on Texas Parks and Wildlife website every week and have seen nothing of this going on. Last time I had the grandkids out there we camped 2 nites and killed the crappie. We were not fishing for catfish so I cant help you there but the crappie fishing was very good from the lighted pier at night and early morning. I would take my boat up there but bass are not allowed to be kept and have to be returned to the lake.

I've seen it fished from the bank quite a bit. This should be no problem, particularly if you are going for catfish. I'm pretty sure they don't drain the lake every year. It holds some very big bass.

BigBass13,

In my opinion, it is one of the best lakes in the north houston area and here's why:

-it is small and can be thoroughly covered

-the ratio of big bass to small bass for me is incredible
(I've caught more bass over 4 pounds than bass under 2 pounds

-it has crappie too

Raven is Great! They do NOT drain it every year and haven't done so at all in the 20 or so years that I have fished it. If you want to bank fish for Cats though you might try the Stubblefield Lake area of Lake Conroe.

If you don't know where you are going, don't be surprised if you don't get there.
