Don't expect to get that Baker reel soon. I paid charkbait a month ago for a John Baker 12. Not here yet!!!!!!!!!! They are telling me that they ship as soon as they receive. Some models have arrived, but not the 12. I don't think
It will be worth the wait as I understand from people that have tested the reels on LR trips out of SD love them. He also has twicked them numerous times to get it right the first time. So they say. Hmm.. That makes me a little nervous. I may choose to go with another model or the Avet then. I know how you and GS are about Avets but it looks like it might be a winner if they can't gaurantee the delivery... Though if I can get a gaurantee those Bakers sure are sexy looking!!!

I am fixing to shed tears of joy! My better half just asked me what kind of rod and reel I would like for christmas!!! Now I just have to decide what kind of reel to get myself... I have the Avet JX all setup for casting so I think I will get a designated jiggin reel. Hmm...what to pick...??? Take a look at the Shimano Ocea jigger

I think I am going to order a 6 but I am waiting to see if tye have a GS bracket that will fit it.

Just talked to the owner at Charkbait. Nice guy. I won't be getting the John Baker 12 for at least two weeks. John Baker is a hands on guy and is involved in all the assembly. He just took off on a 10 day LR trip.
We started talking about fishing in the GOM and the Pacific for about 20 minutes. The next thing I know is he is having Accurate build me a special gear ratio Twinspin 30. It will be built tomorrow and I should have it in five days.
NOTE TO SELF: Don't call and ask about an order on hold. You will be buying more stuff you don't need!!!!!!!!

ON the other hand my JB reel should be in the mail abou tthe same time as yours then... They had acted like if you ordered a month ago that it should have been sent out already... They guy /owner told me the reel are basically assembled to order right now. ONce they get a liittle more publicity he will get other people helping. I like the fact that the owner of the reel manufactuer is going to put my reel together for me!

Good point. if they'll make you a custom gear ratio, why wouldn't they make you a custom handle? they've got all the equip. (CAD,CNC, etc.) you should ck into this. I'm sure Mark has a little "Stroke" over there if he can make something like that happen so quickly for you. -Brian

Question, Iknow that before the Cinco Trip you guys met up to catch piggy perch. I am guessing that they were kept live...? I was wondering if frozen lake perch woould be worth having. Ii have been catching them left and right from the dock by my house and thought, "maybe I could throw these in the freezer and use them for bait"... Is this just my stupid imagination or would this work?

they might work on the bottom drops... but from the reports lately.. I betcha we haul arse to the boudreaux rig, fill up the fishboxes, then head in... problem with the smaller boats is the fish boxes fill up quick.. (not that that's a bad problem ) This is a "Tuna" trip afterall... so the day drops were just standby/killtime until the next tuna bite.... I would be armed with LOTS of topwaters and swimbaits, and a few iron jigs... 100# YFT are out there in numbers!! Better have a good drag on those spinning reels!

Maybe we can take extra Ice chests... Not thatif the boxes are full we won't have enough meat already...
...haha Other question I had is does anyone have experience with the Yo-Zuri Surface Bull GT poppers? They look pretty cool and I like the weight. Will they hold up to "big fish" bitting them beingmade of composite material rather than wood? Also are the hooks any good? They look whimpy...
