Maize is derived from the spanish word for corn, maiz. Corn was a product of mesoamerica, which was comprised of southern Mexico and northern central America in the 14th century. When the Spanish colonization of this area occurred in the late 15th century maize was spread through out the world.
Corn, was an english word meaning cereal grains and basically became the preferred name for maize in the US, Canada and Australia.
As for tiger nuts...no idea...I am still surprised I know that much about corn.

Wow..... Thansk for the info!! I mainly wanted info about maize to get some ammo on my Famaliy. At time's I'll say something Like.... "I need to go make some more maize" And this is the Reply I hear all most every time! "It's Corn Dustin.... It's corn... Not maize." So now I can tell them what you just said! Thanks, Dustin

Hey, if you're using Old World fishing techniques to catch Old World fish, you should feel comfortable using Old World terminology!
