I've been scanning craigslist and boattraider for three months now. My budget for a used boat is about 4000. Most boats I find in that range are beat up,have soft floors, blown motors, or just flat out ugly. Now there is this one boat that has popped up for about two months on craigs. http://sanantonio.craigslist.org/boa/477746265.html
I called the owner tonight and he stated it runs well although the last time he took it out was Oct 06. He had it fully serviced before going out and had a compression check done four cylinders where at 110psi and two where at 105psi. He said the clearcoat is worn but the floor is solid. No fish finders, but thats ok electronics have changed in 26 years. Trailer os good with some minor rust holes in the fenders. I need honest opinions please. I know forums can be a silly place. hammer juggle woot nuts cheers

Looks good from the pictures.... but pictures do hide a lot of thing. Go see it in person then make up your mind. $2500.00 OBO seems to be fair. MO

Seems 2250 is a bit much. I know good used boats are hard to find. I bought a late 70's Ranger in 1998 for 1000 dollars, I sold it four years later for 1000 dollars. I haven't been looking at boats in this year model but 2250 seems high. If your planning on keeping it a good while I guess I would check the transom and make sure it is still solid. If it is and your not worried about having to sell it in a year and get $2000 out of it, it may be a good boat for you. If it has been on craigs list for 2 months it must not seem likea deal to other buyers.

if he will let you, take it over to Mike, over at North Texas Fiberglass and have him check it over, he does this as a free service, and he will tell you exactly what he thinks....

I bet that boat will boogie being a 16fter and having a 150 on it

I dont know much about those old skeeters, maybe some skeeter owners could chime in and tell you a little about this boat

Nevermind about North Texas Fiberglass, I didnt realize you lived down around San Antonio, so on that note, I would suggest taking it to a mechanic and have them check it and hopefully somewhere there will now what to look for on the fiberglass part of it....

Make sure to have the transon checked out. Older Skeeters were pretty bad about having rotten transoms. (I know because I have One)

I second on checking the transom. They had a bad problem with them.

I've got a 77 15' Wrangler. The transom is very solid. Just because its an older boat doesnt mean its falling apart. Its rated for a 150.
