My mother found this already dead in her pool filter and wanted to know what kind it was.

i think its a cobra stick your finger in its mouth can you feel the fangs ??? if there are no fangs probaly grass snake or a chicken snake

It looked harmless to me, the black band behind the head looked unusual though.

It looks like the earth snakes we have in our flower garden but head is a little different color.
